Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren held a brief meeting with the media to confirm what I reported last night - that Matt Walker now needs surgery on his left hip.

That surgery is sked for THUR.

He had surgery on right hip on Oct. 20.

Michael Leighton and Ian Laperriere will flip-flop on the injured front. That is, Leighton comes off long-term injured reserve (LTIR) tonight and Laperriere (post-concussion syndrome) goes on LTIR.

Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren
December 14, 2010

Q: Can you give us an update on [Matt] Walker and [Michael] Leighton and the roster situation?
“Well, Mike was going to see the doctor tonight, so sometime during the game or, mostly likely, just after the game we’ll activate him. On to our roster, Matt Walker is going to have surgery on Thursday for a cam impingement in his hip and also a little bit of a labral debridement.”

Q: Basically the same injury he had on the other side, right?
“I’m not sure he had a cam impingement, I forget.”

Q: And he just did that since Sunday’s game?
“I’m not sure Sam, I mean, this might be going back a while”

Q: Is he out for the year then probably?
“No, no. I’m thinking 4-6 weeks.”

Q: Ian [Laperriere]’s on long-term?
“Yes.”

Q: You kind of did that reluctantly
“Yeah, didn’t want to do that.”

Q: Kind of ties you up a little bit?
“Well, what it does… I think if I knew Ian was coming back I wouldn’t be so reluctant, but I have doubts that he’s going to come back. That means you’re on long-term for the rest of the year. It creates implications that aren’t great.”

Q: Doubts that he’d be able to come back this year, or ever?
“Well, certainly this year I had doubts about.”
