Progress in Carter Contract Talks

A few weeks ago, I was told there wasn't much progress being made at re-signing Jeff Carter.

That has changed.

Rick Curran doesn't say much, but he doesn't waste words. Both he and Paul Holmgren told me today that they've made progress in the talks.

Among other things, Holmgren said he has absolute confidence this deal will get done and that the club will still have $$ to re-sign Claude Giroux next. Since both are RFAs, the leverage here is still with the Flyers.

Holmgren also stressed that the problems on the team with injuries and poor play, etc. kinda got in the way of the talks, plus some issues Curran had himself in talks concerning other clients.

A lot of Flyerdom fans seem to want Carter traded so they won't like this news.

The only thing certain here is Carter's deal will not be a 12-year pact like Mike Richards got.

If I'm Curran, I want no more than 3 years. He's looking at being a potential UFA in July 2012.
