I am not able to attend the Flyers' first on-ice day of training camp today. Reportedly, an even bigger crowd than last year's throng of spectators turned out for the session, which started at 9 AM.

Ville Leino (hip) and Blair Betts (shoulder) are continuing their post-surgery rehab work while skating with the rest of the team with no contact, while defenseman Chris Pronger (knee) and goaltender Johan Backlund (hip) will continue to work out individually.

For those who haven't seen it, here is the full camp roster, including minor league roster players and try-out invitees.

Forwards (36): Blair Betts, Danny Briere, Daniel Carcillo, Jeff Carter, Michael Chaput, Matt Clackson, Justin Dowling, Blake Gal, Claude Giroux, Bill Guerin, Shane Harper, Scott Hartnell, Ben Holmstrom, Jon Kalinski, Garrett Klotz, David Labrecque, David Laliberte, Ian Laperriere, Stefan Legein, Ville Leino, Pat Maroon, Tye McGinn, Greg Moore, Andreas Nodl, Luke Pither, Darroll Powe, Brendan Ranford, Mike Richards, Zac Rinaldo, Andrew Rowe, Michael Ryan, Jody Shelley, Mike Testwuide, James van Riemsdyk, Eric Wellwood, Nikolai Zherdev.

Defensemen (22); Oskars Bartulis, Ricard Blidstrand, Marc-Andre Bourdon, Matt Carle, Braydon Coburn, Chad Denny, Jesse Dudas, Cullen Eddy, Erik Gustafsson, Tyler Hostetter, Dan Jancevski, Ryan Lannon, Joonas Lehtivouri, Kevin Marshall, Andrej Meszaros, Sean O’Donnell, Joe Piskula, Chris Pronger, Logan Stephenson, J.P. Testwuide, Kimmo Timonen, Matt Walker.

Flyers goaltending prospect Joacim Eriksson is making his Elitserien debut today in a road game in Luleå. He had a rough first game in a 5-3 loss.

Eriksson was beaten for three goals in the opening 14:45 of the first period. Two of the LHF goals came on the man advantage. SAIK was outshot, 20-6, in the first period.

Eriksson settled down in the middle stanza, stopping all 10 shots he faced as SAIK rallied for three goals to tie the game.

The game remained tied until 8:08 of the third period. LHF's Cam Abbot put his team up for good and Joonas Vihko added some insurance a few minutes later.

Eriksson faced six shots in the third period, stopping four. For the game, he stopped 31 of 35 shots (86.1%). Two of the goals came off bad rebounds. The first goal of the game deflected off of the goalpost, hit the goaltender's pads and went in the net.

The 2010-11 season marks the 15th anniversary season of the Wells Fargo Center (F/K/A the CoreStates Center, First Union Center and Wachovia Center). Throughout the season, I will be writing a series of articles for the Flyers' official Web site looking back at some of the most memorable hockey events, games and moments from its first 14 seasons. The first article, to be published in the next few weeks, will look back at the arena's inaugural event: the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.

This week's Across the Pond at NHL.com takes an in-depth look at the partnership arrangement between the Boston Bruins and the SM-Liiga's JYP Jyväskylä.

The current Daily Drop at Versus.com looks at a question that I plan to explore in greater depth in the near future: Is there still a role for smaller goalies in the NHL?
