You never know what Chris Pronger will say if you catch him at the right moment.

One of the Flyers' PR people checked in with him during his rehab at Skate Zone today and Pronger said he would NOT be ready for training camp because there is too much atrophy in his right knee.

Last week, GM Paul Holmgren told me Pronger would be ready for camp when I wrote the story he had arthroscopic surgery. Pronger isn't even sure he'll be ready by the season opener on Oct. 7 in Pittsburgh.

I always trust the athlete when it comes to these matters because they know their body better than the GM or trainer or physician.

"With the amount of atrophy it is going to take a lot of hard work to build the leg muscles back up," Pronger said. "Obviously, I will be spending a lot of hours in the gym trying to strengthen my knee and the rest of my body. A lot of times when you hurt your knee you walk different and you hurt your back or you hurt your other knee because you are loading that up more. It is really about your body becoming symmetrical again and you're not over taxing any one part of your body."

Here's is Sarah's Baicker's blog on CSNPhilly.com on Pronger:

Not that this will come as a shock to anyone, but NHL Deputy Commish, Bill Daly, responding to my story on CSNPhilly.com on Tuesday, said the Flyers REMAIN under investigation on the Chris Pronger deal.

Keep in mind, the two sides met last fall - almost a year ago - and Pronger's new, 7-yr, $34.45 million deal began on July 1.

So, now the agents are up in arms. And what were the odds that the NHLPA and NJ Devils would actually be on the same side in this matter? Strange bedfellows, eh?

I threw Ray Emery's photo up there to see if anyone remembered him.
