CONSOL Energy Center Construction Wraps Up

After an Aug. 14, 2008 groundbreaking and several years of work, construction of the CONSOL Energy Center is wrapping up, with workers tweaking LED signs and setting up tables in preparation for Friday's grand opening.

Friday's VIP grand opening will be followed by an open house for season ticket holders on Aug. 14 and 15 and an open house for the general public on Aug. 28.

The new arena will host Paul McCartney on Aug. 18 and 19, CONSOL Energy Center's first event.

The finished lobby of the Trib Total Media Gate, complete with the now-open Pen Station store.

The Penguins logo now adorns the first ice at CONSOL.

A view of the arena from a loge seating area, just below the main concourse.

The Penguins' new locker room. The domed roof is an homage to the old dome of the Mellon Arena.

The players' lounge. I'm anxious to find out which Penguin is the best at bubble hockey.

The massive, high-definition scoreboard. Star Trek was playing on the big screens, as crews are making sure everything runs smoothly.

The scoreboard control room, looking like NASA's ground control.

A view from the upper concourse, above the second bowl of seats.

The brewhouse area, located just off the upper concourse, will be open to all ticket holders.

The views of the city from the brewhouse area are among the best from the new arena.

The banners have been moved in from Mellon Arena and will always remind us of the old Igloo.
