As Team Canada makes its way through the qualification round at the World Championships and the injury bug begins to plague the team, Vancouver Canucks forward Mason Raymond and Edmonton Oilers goaltender Devan Dubnyk have both been added to Team Canada's roster.
The two additions come on the heels of a dominant 12-1 victory over Norway in Canada's first qualification round game on Friday. There were some openings on the roster due to a tournament ending ankle injury to Ryan Smyth and a concussion suffered by Steven Stamkos.
In 82 games with the Canucks this season, the speedy Mason Raymond scored 25 goals and 28 assists for 53 points.
Devan Dubnyk appeared in 16 games for the Oilers this season. He put together a record of 4-10-2 with a goals-against average of 3.57 and a .889 save percentage. Dubnyk has played for Team Canada before, as a member of the 2006 World Junior team that won gold.
It is expected that both Raymond and Dubnyk will be available for Team Canada's next game, Sunday against Sweden.
While Mark Messier puts together the final touches on his roster, one player that will not be making his way to Germany to play for Team Canada is Sidney Crosby.
Hours after the Pittsburgh Penguins were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs by the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, Crosby declined Messier's invitation to play at the Worlds and replace an injured Ryan Smyth.
Crosby's agent Pat Brisson explained to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Crosby's reason for turning down the offer was that he just needed some time off.
"At this time and after a long 24 months between two Stanley Cup finals and an Olympic gold medal, it's probably more appropriate to relax and recharge."
Unless there are any further injuries, there are not expected to be any more additions to Team Canada's roster.
