I'm still in awe of Jaroslav Halak's performance last night in Game 6 of the Montreal-Washington series. How could anyone NOT be? When I write a blog or article, I try whenever possible to tackle a topic that there aren't already scores of other columns being written about. But in this case, it feels silly to talk about anything else this morning. So, yes, today's
Daily Drop at Versus.com says pretty much the same things as dozens of other articles published late last night and today.
On to the Flyers ... While I STILL suspect that Washington is going to prevail in Game 7 (I think the first 10 minutes of the game will be very tellling, however), I confess that I am personally pulling for Montreal. Two reasons: 1) It'd be a great story to see Halak and the Habs come back from a 3 games to 1 deficit against the highly favored Caps, and 2) it would set up a Flyers-Boston series in Round 2, while the Penguins would take on Montreal.
That's why the playoffs are so much fun ("exquisite torture," as Gene Hart once called it) and why I hate making predictions about the outcomes of hockey series. There are just too many variables -- the biggest one being goaltending, of course -- that you can't predict. Every series takes on a personality of its own, and it's impossible to know going in what that defining characteristic will be.
