Isles Win Over Brodeur-less Devils

Yep, without their Captain. Without Robbie Schremps stick-handling, without Trent Hunter's size. Without a lot, the Islanders pulled out a win after the Devils' scored on their first shot.

At first I didn't think they would be able to get anything going. The first period was pretty lopsided in the Devil's favor even if Freddy Meyer did tie the score at one on a Tim Jackman shot that looked like it could have been tipped by Josh Bailey passed ex-Isles goalie Yann Danis. And then something happened.

It took until 8:01 remaining in the second before Jon Sim broke the tie. Wait, can I say that again? JON SIM broke the 1- 1 tie. Yes hard work pays off. Sometimes you just get your butt kicked. But sometimes, you find the back of the net. It was Sim's 10th of the season. Jon only scored more goals in one NHL season in 2006 when he was with the Thrashers and had 17. He was in a good mood post game.

At 11:59 of the second, Mark Streit scored again. it was either his 9th or 10th as well. I'm not sure if they updated the NHL stats or not.

On the other hand, Kovalchuck scored his 36th goal of the season at 1:41 of the third. But it was a short handed goal by Sean Bergenheim that made the crowd that braved the elements roar with excitment as Dylan Reese sat in the box for 4 minutes for high sticking. (The kid spends some time in the box.) The kid who I am pretty sure can score 20 goals now has six for the season.

He wasn't out in the locker room during post game. I asked for him to come out. Once he did, the cameras descended on him led by MSG's Rob Carlin.

"It felt pretty good. Especially they had their power play going. It gave us some breathing room. It felt good personally too. It's been a little bit unproductive this season but you just gotta keep on going. There have been some bounces the wrong way and I today, I got it the right way."

It certainly did. I heard the roar and the horn sound. I didn't see the goal. Nope, once again, Sean Bergenheim scored and I wasn't there to watch.

I waited for the camera lights to go off and for the reporter to head to someone else to cover. I looked up at this young man that I have watched since he was 18 and asked him the question I have wanted to know the answer to for years.

"So, do you actually WAIT for me to go to the bathroom before you score?" Yep. It happens every time. His eyes opened wide and he smiled. "Really?"

"Yes really! And there's no TVs in there, so I didn't see it!" My friend Brad Kurtzberg from Insidehockey.com said "I told her you would start paying her $10 a game to STAY in the bathroom if that was the case."

He got a big kick out of that. "You should tell them to put TVs in the Bathroom for you. No, wait. When the Lighthouse is built, we will make SURE there are TVs in there."

Yes, please do. Because I seem to miss a few things.

Matt Moulson and Dylan Reese will have a bett on the Cornell vs Harvard series which will have to wait to the finals.

Today's Scott Gordon post game was incredibly short. only 1:30. I was disappointed that Dan Martin from the Daily News didn't ask any questions. I was also disappointed that Stan Fischler from MSG wasn't in the post game with him. But he was busy covering the Devils.

I saw Robbie Schremp. He's getting very good on the crutches. He could probably run a race on them.

So the Isles came away with two points playing spoiler to the Devils. They may have a chance to do that to a lot of teams in the next few weeks.
