It's Thursday, January 28th and today the Islanders wake up in Carolina to face the Hurricanes. They have to leave the sting of the last two losses back in Uniondale and remember they have won in RBC center before. I just hope they can do it in regulation and not overtime -- AGAIN.
Dustin Kohn may enjoy travelling on this road trip by charter instead of the buses of the AHL. I'm pretty sure he'll be looking to make every shift count as he fills in for Jack Hillen.
Perhaps being away from home for a few days will be good for the Islanders. Maybe Captain Doug will be able to rally the troops and get them back to the form they were just a short time ago.
There are thirteen points separating these two clubs. But the Hurricane's can't be taken lightly. No team can be taken lightly any longer. Both clubs have injury problems, and Cole, Walker and Ruutu are all out for the 'Canes. But they've got that Staal kid and we've got Okposo.
They also have the "Caneiacs" (They have their own website!) But I do enjoy the way their fans get behind their team. So while this is a weeknight matchup, if the RBC is packed, the Canes may have the momentum in this game.
But we Islander fans have to back up our team and cheer them on, no matter where they are in the standings or geographically. I received a message from my friend Coach Chic from http://www.coachchic.com about our Islanders.
"Hey, remember that they're still basically a young team, and I think they have a HUGE upside. In the meantime, however, I think you fans are going to have to ride the rollercoaster for awhile -- a couple of inspiring wins here, and a couple of discouraging losses there. Have faith, though, lady! :)"
