Flyers GM Paul Holmgren offered his take on Mike Richards' problems with the media and clearly stood behind his player today, adding that the issues at hand will work themselves out.

Richards spoke to the media, but would not answer questions posed by the Inquirer. I asked the same question the Inky asked and he answered.

My personal belief is that this won't last more than a few days just as it didn't last more than a week way back in October.

One thing I noticed on the ice was that Richards and coach Peter Laviolette spoke at length in the skate-around before practice began. I think you'd have to be naive not to believe they talked about media issues.

When I asked Richards and Laviolette about their topic, neither would answer in specifics but Richards used a couple of words that I think indicated they spoke about the media, among other things.

What words?

"how things are going and what has been going on."

Holmgren said he addressed the media tiff with Richards last night on the train ride back from Washington and today, as well.

WASHINGTON _ The worst part of Sunday's 5-3 Flyer loss to the Capitals wasn't the game itself but the confrontation after the game between Flyer captain Mike Richards and the Philly media.

The Cold War was re-ignited when Richards was asked about comments he made in The Hockey News' Jan. 25 issue saying the media here make up stories.

The Q&A with the beat writers after today's game got nasty. Chris Pronger even offered his own take on the media and admitted he learned from being nasty with the media early in his career and now says he enjoys his relationship with the media.

I got a feeling this latest incident won't go away quickly.
