I’m told Blues Captain Eric Brewer will play tonight for the first time since undergoing two back surgeries last season.

Brewer has also recovered from a minor knee operation this past summer.

Tonight will be the first NHL game for Brewer in 10 ½ months. He’s expected to be paired with highly touted prospect Alex Pietrangelo who will plays his third game in a row tonight vs. the Phoenix Coyotes.

It goes without saying this is a big night for Brewer who told me this morning he expects to play real minutes tonight. Brewer also told me he never considered going a on a rehab assignment in Peoria.

Goaltender Ty Conklin is in tonight against the Coyotes.

The plan this season will be to have Conklin play at least one game per week. The Blues aren’t ready to give Mason back to back assignments this early in the season.

Patrik Berglund looks to rebound after being benched for much of the third period last night in Carolina.

Brad Boyes took in some extra work on the ice this morning even though the team did not practice as a team.

D-man Carlo Colaiacovo has the flu and is not expected to be available tonight.

Tyson Strachan is a leading candidate to sit tonight to create a spot for Brewer.

The D pairings tonight will likely be the following….

Brewer Pietrangelo

Sydor Johnson

Polak Weaver (who played 22 minutes in Carolina)

I’ll be doing a pre-game show live from the downtown Sheraton hotel on 14th street at 6:00 tonight on AM 590 The Fan.
