So what is the logjam? It is all about Belfour and Peca...The players and teams stuck behind the stalled cars named Peca and Belfour are Biron, Aebischer, Anson Carter, Lindros, Legace, Giguere, Florida, Detroit, Montreal, Buffalo, Yanic Perreault, Brian Boucher, and the Blues.

Here are the players and the scenarios. Belfour: We have been hearing that he was signing with Detroit for a week now. Why hasn't he? One source claims that Belfour may be considering Florida still, but I am hearing more and more that the Wings are still holding out hope that they could grab Biron or Giguere in a deal. There is also a chance that the Wings could deal for Aebischer.

Peca: We have heard that he was waiting for the Leafs to tender an offer...There are rumors out there that they have tendered a two year deal with an option for a third. Now they are waiting for Peca. However rumors have really intesified that the Rangers, Islanders, Sabres and now, The Flames, are taking that offer and considering raising it.

Anson Carter. The Rumor here is that many people didn't think that Peca would even consider the Leafs offer. And Anson Carter really wants to be a Leaf and talks Wednesday went extremely well with the Leafs and Carter, and the Canucks when learning of the range pulled out. This led to speculation that Carter's deal would be finalized or even had been. Now Carter waits for Peca. While he is waiting, the Detroit Red Wings have become a player. Why? well besides liking Carter's game, the Wings need forward depth in order to pull off a trade for a goalie, in which case they would not sign Belfour.

So there you have the gridlock. If Peca signs in Toronto, Carter signs in Detroit, then Belfour may sign in Florida, and The Wings will move a forward to get Giguere, Biron, or Aebischer.

Lindros meanwhile is rumored to have been in LA and Edmonton yesterday. The teams interested in 88: The Oilers, the Stars, the Kings, the Predators, the Islanders, and even the Canadiens. The Leafs cant't seriously be thinking they can get E back for $750,000.
