Valabik Out Four Weeks With Ankle Injury

Thrashers defender Boris Valabik is expected to miss four weeks of action due to an injury to his left ankle. The 6’-7”, 240-pound Czech suffered the injury while skating backwards at practice Monday morning. It is also quite possible that he’ll need surgery to repair the damaged tendon…that decision is pending after another examination.

With a that bit of news, the addition of Christoph Schubert last weekend looks even that much better of a move…however, according to Chris Vivlamore of the AJC, the German defender is experiencing “immigration issues” and may not be available when the team play in St. Louis Thursday night.

Outside of the top-four blueliners of Zach Bogosian, Pavel Kubina, Tobias Enstrom and Ron Hainsey…I would expect that Mark Popovic and Anssi Salmela would round out the defensive corps of Atlanta. No word yet on whether or not if a player like Nathan Oystrick would be recalled from the Chicago Wolves to travel with the Thrashers on their upcoming 5-game road trip, at least until Schubert is available.

Also, Anderson did say that Colby Armstrong is ready to return to action and that Ondrej Pavelec is expected to start in goal against the Blues.

Following tomorrows game, the Thrashers go to Ottawa to play the Senators on Saturday then finish off the five game road trip by playing in New Jersey and Buffalo next Friday and Saturday nights and then in Montreal on the 20th of the month.
