Simply the best.

Martin Brodeur tied Patrick Roy's record of having 551 NHL regular season wins. With Roy in attendance to witness this historic event, it was almost fitting that Brodeur would tie the record in Montreal. Since coming back from his injury, Brodeur is 7-1-0 and has looked sharp with no signs of ill effects from his surgically repaired bicep.

New Jersey put 48 shots on Jaroslav Halak. With the exception of a couple offensive spurts from the Montreal Canadiens, the Devils dominated this game from the start. Patrick Elias tied John MacLean's mark of 701 all-time franchise points and Brian Rolston scored his 300th goal of his career. But the night belonged to Brodeur.

Chico Resch mentioned in the postgame show that every win Brodeur has now in his career is a new record. What hockey fans are witnessing here is a legend in the making and by the time Brodeur's career is finally over, he may hold NHL records that will never be threatened and will rank up with Gretzky, Orr, and Howe as hockey's immortals. Historians may even argue that he maybe the modern day Babe Ruth based on his track record of dominance over a two decade era.

Who knows what Tuesday may bring? It will definitely be deemed St. Marty's Day in Newark and the entire hockey world will be watching Brodeur try to win 552 against an exciting talented Chicago Blackhawks team. It will not be easy and to Devils fans, this will be as nail biting as a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup finals. No one wants to see the record broken in Carolina.

The Rock, the house that Marty built, will be witnessing another milestone each game Brodeur wins till the end of his career. He is a New Jersey sports icon and we've gotten a taste of life without Marty in net this season for the first time since the early 1990's. We will never see a better goaltender and classy individual again in our lifetime.
