Devils eat Fish sticks for dinner, win 4-2. Woo’s Top Five List

The Devils are 12 points behind the Boston Bruins and surging for the top spot of the Eastern Conference. Islanders’ goalie, Joey MacDonald, played very well but the Devils were just too strong for the Islanders.

What can I say about Zach Parise? He is certainly making a case to become a Hart trophy winner. He has 34 goals and closing in on Alexander Ovechkin for the most goals in the league. And for those hockey writers/ bloggers that haven’t noticed, the Devils are a strong offensive team that is aggressive with the forecheck and not playing the “trap as usual”. I say this because I still listen and read about the Devils’ boring systematic style that is winning games as Brodeur is sitting with an injury. This team is doing all the right things that matter by beating their opponents to the puck, forcing turnovers rather than waiting for mistakes, and going hard to the net. The Devils are winning battles in the corners physically and consistently.

Once Brodeur returns and after the transition back to fulltime duties, this Devils team will have the best depth all around to make their Stanley Cup run.

Woo’s Top Five Suggested Promotional Ideas at the Prudential Center

5. Andy “Go Greene” Night. Fans in attendance bring all of their recyclable cans, paper, and bottles at the Verizon tower entrance to receive a complimentary Andy “Go Greene” poster made by recycled paper.

4. Chico Resch “Buffalo Wings Eating Contest”. Well, we all love those “Chico Eats” segments and what better way to have a wings eating contest at the Rock. Now, the Devils have done this before but let’s raise the bar to a whole new level. Have ten Devils fans start eating at the drop of the puck and periodically have updates on how many wings they have eaten during the game stoppages. By the end of the game, let’s see who wins a dinner with Chico Resch by eating the most wings (measured by lbs). (I suggest playing the Sabres for this promotion.)

3. St. Patrik’s Day! Well, the Devils play the Blackhawks on St. Patty’s Day this year. If Patrik Elias scores a goal, all Devils fans (21 or older) wearing their old Christmas tree jerseys would receive a free complimentary Guinness at the Goal Bar after the game.

2. Dollar Popcorn Night. Can you imagine 17,500 bags or more popcorn sold? Not only will Devils fans would enjoy some popcorn but the residual income the Devils would make for the all of the drinks you would buy to quench your thirst. And another Winter Storm Warning would be in effect for the entire Prudential Center when the Devils score!

1. Most Valuable is Parise t-shirts! I think it is time, as suggested from an e-mail I received, to start the Zach Parise for Hart trophy campaign. He is having a sensational year and puts those hockey writer’s theories of boring hockey in New Jersey to shame. The Devils are near the top in the Eastern Conference in scoring and a lot has to do with Parise’s presence on the ice.

And since there are tons of Parise teeny boppers that go to the Devils game, maybe this t-shirt will help send the message:
