Luongo Cruising … So’s The Blogger

Captain Luongo’s 3rd straight shutout, the 2nd consecutive year he has done that, was his 5th of the year in 14 starts. He’s now got 16 as a Canuck and is only 4 away from the Franchise record.

This just in ... this Luongo guy is pretty good.

The team is still hard to peg in that the styles of the games played have been far from consistent, but they are obviously putting more emphasis on the defensive side of the puck in recent games which bodes well for the future of the now, after beating Minnesota 2-0 tonight, first place Canucks.

Speaking of the future, this will be my last official piece as the Canucks’ Blogger here on HockeyBuzz as I have been presented an opportunity to expand my writing horizons that I’m diving head first into.

Many of you are familiar with Kevin Lee and his Website www.SportsTalkBuzz.com and Kevin has hired me for the role of NHL Director as part of the re-launch of the site taking place this week.

Besides over-seeing all Hockey Content I’ll be Blogging on the Canucks and doing a couple of Weekly Columns; one on the NHL in general and another one on Sports Media as it pertains to any and all Sports. As well, I’m playing a “back of the house” role on STB that will allow me to learn and understand the business side of things more, and all of that combined makes a very tough decision to leave HB a little easier.

I can not express enough how grateful I am to Eklund for giving me the opportunity to explore a side of me that, up until then, I wasn’t even aware existed. I’ve never been one who is shy to express an opinion and I knew I could throw a word or two together every now and then, but I had no idea there was such a thing as a “Writing Bug” or that it would somehow grab a hold of me and decide not let go.

Like everything one tackles in life, we always think we can do a good job and usually underestimate the full scope of what is involved in the task at hand before we start. Once you’re knee-deep in it, however, that early perception almost always quickly changes with a major dose of reality and, apparently, writing about your favourite team in your favourite sport is no exception.

I don’t think any writer ever reaches their full potential … every day is a learning experience and an opportunity to get better. Prior to posting a Blog here at HB I had never written anything, and it didn’t take long to realize how steep the learning curve I was facing really was.

Through the opportunity to talk about the Canucks here I have learned that I have much to learn and, most importantly, that I want to be learned and I want it RFN… and that is the genesis of me leaving.

Exposure-wise, switching from HB to STB makes absolutely no sense as this is one of relatively few major Hockey Destinations on the Interwebs and I’m obviously moving from more eyeballs to less, but unfortunately there was no way I could have such a versatile role here to ramp up my experience levels the way I can at STB … I’m getting old and that damn clock is starting to tick louder and louder everyday.

Eklund won’t be leaving you high and dry and rumour has it there might be a pretty big name coming on board to fill my roster spot, so not to worry about your Canucks Fix at HockeyBuzz. There’s also the possibility of me making a return “Guest Shot” or two along the way, as neither Ek nor myself are closing any doors as I leave the place that has felt like home.

Well, there you are, and here I go … consider yourself officially up to speed.

In closing, I’ll just say one GREAT BIG THANK YOU! to all of you who have made this little corner of HB somewhat of a regular stop as you are surfing through the tubes that make up your daily travels. Your support and feedback has been invaluable and is something I’ll never forget and I wish everyone at HockeyBuzz all the best.

See Ya!
