Though it's been a while since "Badger" Bob Johnson came to Pittsburgh and showed a ragtag group of young Penguins how to win, his spirit always surrounds the team. Bob Johnson will forever be known as the coach that turned things around in Pittsburgh. Sure, the team was starting to show signs of becoming a serious contender, but it was his infusion of positive energy that really seemed to push the Penguins to the next level...a Stanley Cup winning level.

That is exactly what the Penguins are hoping will happen again this season and into the future, as they utilize one of the "Badger's" best known quotes in their marketing campaign for this year, "It's a Great Day For Hockey."

According to the Penguins press release on the matter, "A Great Day For Hockey" symbolizes the optimism of Penguins hockey and the Penguins’ fan experience, blending the echoes of past success with the promise of an exciting future.

"There is such a feeling of optimism around Pittsburgh Penguins hockey these days, from our tremendous young talent on the ice, to the phenomenal support of our fans, to the extensive community outreach by our players – and it all adds up to a growing bond between our team and the Pittsburgh region," said David Morehouse, the Penguins’ president.

Mr. Morehouse's words ring true. There is a definite air of optimism around the region and throughout the fan base. It has been amazing to watch how things have evolved over the past three years and how the team has been embraced.

"Penguins fans know it was the late Badger Bob Johnson who coined the phrase, ‘It’s a Great Day For Hockey,’ but we believe that Badger Bob’s optimism is perfectly applied to Penguins hockey of the 21st century. With a growing young, tech-savvy fan base and a state-of-the-art arena on the horizon, we believe the Penguins reflect the energy, drive and innovation of the new Pittsburgh."

The campaign will include elements of video, print and arena signage. Here is a look at the Penguins "A Great Day For Hockey" video.

The Penguins home opener tomorrow evening will be the team's 68th consecutive sell out.

In 2007-08, the Penguins sold out all 41 regular season home games for the first time in franchise history. The club-record sellout streak, which also includes playoff games, dates back to the 2006-07 regular season.
