Would you do it?

With the Sundin rumours intensifying that a decision could come as early as tomorrow the word on the inside among MANY of the people talking, texting or emailing one another in the NHL front offices and players is that Gomez to Vancouver works for many reasons and may in fact even be a better solution than Sundin out west.

Of course we all question the simple facts and logic here....but logic only takes you so far and the biggest problem with logic is it only works if you know EVERYTHING associated with a circumstance.

Try applying logic to the Flyers signing Forsberg post lockout. They had no cap space in the new cap world and sent JR to LA. Looking back a good move, but JR was a major contributor in the playoffs just prior to lockout...sorry Leafs fans.

Many say signing Mats and losing Gomez is a pointless lateral move without realizing that if your are the Rangers and you sign Mats, Gomez becomes a valuable piece of the puzzle to improving elsewhere. Let's visit "Metaphorland." If you have a car and someone gives you another car you aren't going to just keep the first car and drive the second one. You can sell the first car and take a vacation. Make up your own metaphors and allegories about the Sundin situation to share with us!

I still don't know that I think the Rangers should do this...do you?

Anyway...other quick hit rumours:

Nylander to the Flames (e1)
Gionta to the Kings for a defenseman (e2)

from last night

Had a long day of travel and I am just now getting to all of the emails and texts from various sources now that the Gomez rumours have begun.

One source told me that although he has heard that Vancouver is the likely destination that Gomez would end up should Sundin sign with the NY Rangers in the next few days don't think for a second that Edmonton and Minnesota won't also get involved.

"I heard a Gomez for Gaborik rumour (this morning)...of course this wouldn't help the cap situation for the NY Rangers, but Gaborik who is in the last year of his deal could come to NY and Minnesota would get a player in Gomez who is under contract for some time."

Another source, connected to the Oilers since the W days said, "It is no seret that the Oilers were VERY in on Gomez on July 1 2007 and I am quite sure that if he becomes available they are in line."

Rumours surrounding Schneider are once again intensifying. The likely destinations...The Devils, Islanders, Senators and Canadiens.

As for McCabe...

It is still generally accepted that he is going to Florida. However if something goes wrong there I am hearing that the Penguins are the next best bet.

from last night...

Just a Quick Hit for your Friday Night because this news is big and it's from someone who VERY much is in the know in this situation....While it is still uncertain as to whether or not Sundin is going to play, I am told by my source the following...

"We are hearing that the Rangers will sign Mats and deal Gomez."

This source is a source I very much trust. Of course Mats still has to come to play.

Following this lead was fascinating tonight because it opened up some serious other sources who had this information "off the record" until I presented them with this.

One of my sources then proceeded to tell me that the Vancouver Canucks have "HUGE Interest in Scotty Gomez..."

I will of course stay on this throughout the weekend.

Also, as an aside, The Montreal Canadiens have interest on Robert Lang should Sundin end up elsewhere...That has been bouncing around for a few weeks, but was confirmed to me tonight as well.
