Just a Quick Hit for your Friday Night because this news is big and it's from someone who VERY much is in the know in this situation....While it is still uncertain as to whether or not Sundin is going to play, I am told by my source the following...

"We are hearing that the Rangers will sign Mats and deal Gomez."

This source is a source I very much trust. Of course Mats still has to come to play.

Following this lead was fascinating tonight because it opened up some serious other sources who had this information "off the record" until I presented them with this.

One of my sources then proceeded to tell me that the Vancouver Canucks have "HUGE Interest in Scotty Gomez..."

I will of course stay on this throughout the weekend.

Also, as an aside, The Montreal Canadiens have interest on Robert Lang should Sundin end up elsewhere...That has been bouncing around for a few weeks, but was confirmed to me tonight as well.

from earlier today...great stuff..keep it going.

Here's something for you all to play with as I make my morning calls.

Since I am hearing that the Mats Saga may be coming to an end after this weekend I though we should do a special “Whose line is it anyway?: Mats Sundin Edition.

Essentially how this works is I will give you the depth charts of the three teams that are the major players for Mats…Vancouver, Montreal and the NY Rangers..

It is your job to put together the lines for each team with or without Mats..

Here are the Depth Charts of the Three Teams...
I am also doing a poll here so if you don't want to put the lines together, perhaps you could tell me the impact that Mats would have on each team as far as where they would finish in the standings with or without him...

So Let’s hear your lines with and without the “Indecisive One.” Perhaps there is a prospect I left off the list that you really believe deserves mention.
To me, what is interesting is that I am hearing that the Canucks are not done yet by a longshot and if they do not land Sundin they will go out and make a trade with one of their d-men to bolster a very thin offense. The players that I continually hear tied to Vancouver’s plan B include Gionta, Justin Williams and Afinogenov and even still Vermette.

Meanwhile in Rumourland…

So how about this….we all remember the rumblings of last year’s deadline. It was a unique time as we sat and waited for Sundin and McCabe to make a decision…..um….yeh, well, anyway a source told me last night that it was just confirmed to him what many have suspected, Mats did at one point say he would accept a trade to the NY Rangers, but when one couldn’t be worked out that news was never leaked “on the record.”
Did this happen? Not sure, but it is interesting.
So what’s going on with McCabe?
I do believe a deal with the Panthers is in place and both sides are waiting to announce the deal until after the bonus is paid by Toronto. What we are ssing right now is a lot of damage control by both sides to protect the other players from both sides that may or may not be involved. This delay is poisonous to a franchise like Florida as players read all sorts of speculation as to who is going where.
In the end I am hearing that it is possible that due to some of this craziness it is quite possible that only draft picks will be moved as compensation.
