Contrary to my previous report, Jason Williams allegedly per A-Channel via TSN has signed with the Thrashers... I was hearing from multiple sources that Jason Williams had signed for 3 years at 1.9 million per season with the Senators and that the deal would be announced Saturday morning.
This obviously did not occur.
Sources still telling me that Antoine Vermette has asked to be traded. He wants a long term deal and I believe Sens GM Bryan Murray is not willing to give Vermette what he wants. Could Ottawa be focussing on a Chris Neil/Vermette and draft pick package that would see the Sens land Jay Bouwmeester? Regardless if this deal goes down or Neil gets moved separately, Ottawa is trying to add another defensemen and they want to unload Neil.
Ottawa is in heavy talks with Chicago about Neil. Cam Barker is the Sens target. A draft pick would be part of the package along with Neil going to Chicago for Barker. Barker is entering the final year of his contract and will be an RFA at the end of the 2008-09 season. Again, I have been given parts of this trade from more than two sources but can't get anything confirmed as of the wee hours of the morning but wanted to post a quick update.
Brendan Bell has signed a one year deal, two way contract and I will have reaction from him in the next few days when things settle down for me on the work side of things. Yes, we all work here on this site as well as blog.
Many thanks to Tony House for being a part of the Rautins-House Golf Tourney. On top of the tourney and dinner, there was a celebrity poker dinner the night before at the Hilton and it was top notch. Over $200,000 was raised for 3 local charities. I will post more info in my next blog on another great tourney coming up next Friday that is hosted by Serge Payer a former Sen.

Posted at 2:31pm on Friday. I am posting this from a blackberry. Just wanted to get this up quickly. I have this from two sources. Sens are very close to signing UFA Jason Williams. Williams spent last season in Chicago. If this is the case and the Sens can get him cheaper than Antoine Vermette, I wonder if Vermette will be a Sen by the end of the summer. It sure would be nice to have both of them as top six fowards though.
***Updated at 3:06pm, he has signed but I am also told Sens are closing to trading Chris Neil. This would free up cap space and Neil is a UFA in a year. Plus with Ruutu and Bass in the fold, Sens are fine in the muscle department. With Yablonski in Binghamton signed, he could be called up if need be.***
