Sources indicate the Blues have also traded for Nashville Goaltender Chris Mason for a 4th Round pick The Blues use the 4th rounder they received in the Christian Backman deal. Mason has two years left on his deal at $3 million per.

Jamal Mayers Story From Last Night.....

The Blues have traded long time Blues winger Jamal Mayers to Toronto for a third round pick.

According to a source, the Blues are not done dealing. This deal without a doubt sets up another trade.

I’ve been told not to be too quick to judge this trade. On the surface trading one of the teams true veteran characters and leader for a third round pick does not appear to be a good deal for the Blues. I certainly hope that’s the case and there is "more to come" with this story.

Mayers has been a great St. Louis Blues player on and off the ice. Here's a guy who's given 10 years to the community and deserves respect not only on his way out but from Toronto fans who are inheriting a real professional.

This guy sticks up for his teammates, is 100% professional, and is one of the best conditioned athletes in the league. He'll also kill penalties, take face offs, and give you at least 10-15 goals a year. He's done nothing to hurt his value over the past few years which is why I certainly hope the Blues make out better than just a third round selection. Mayers is more than a 3rd or 4th line guy, he's gone out of his way and has done a lot for this organization, I hope he's properly recognized for it.

I spoke to Mayers just moments after he was notified and it was clear he was completely shocked. No one ever expects a trade, but this was truly out of the Blue.

Rink Rats!

The New York Islanders are aggressively trying to move from # 5.

Why in the world would anyone think Pittsburgh would trade Evgeni Malkin??? I'm told this was written up north.

For those of you who are focused on Malkin you need to switch your energy to Marian Hossa.

That's who the Penguin Organization is focused on. I'm confused why anyone thinks Pittsburgh would actually trade one of the true premier players in the NHL while he has a year left on his entry level deal! Why do the Penguins need to extend Malkin and Jordan Staal when they’re under contract? What’s the rush? They don't need to worry about Malkin until next summer, for now it's all about Hossa and guys like Ryan Malone.

The Penguins are trying to re-sign Hossa and it appears Ryan Malone wants to test free agency.

The club already decided they're taking goaltender Marc Andre-Fleury to arbitration to prevent another NHL club from throwing an offer sheet in his direction.

San Jose is a team to watch, they have no 1st round pick and a player like Marleau to throw out there. Same goes with Florida and Jokinen. Would Columbus swap the 6th overall for one of these guys?

Good to see the Thrashers are giving John Anderson the chance he deserves. Former Leafs Head Coach Paul Maurice also interviewd in Atlanta.

Jay Feaster's responsibility could change a bit with the ownership change, but his title will evidently stay the same.

Former Toronto GM John Ferguson Jr. is expected to meet with a few teams in Ottawa regarding a consulting position.
