Melrose Place?

A source this morning has informed me that Barry Melrose would indeed be returning to coach an NHL team this fall. "It is almost 100% in place I was told." The team Melrose will return to coach? We will know that for certain very soon as well.

I asked a trusted source who was VERY familiar with Melrose's coaching style how he would describe Barry...

"He's a VERY good motivational coach, not to unlike Lindy Ruff. He gets the most out of his players. During his Cup run with LA, Barry was very into Tony Robbins, motivational speaking, etc. If you are a hard working player, you are one of Barry's guys."

Daymond Langkow to Flames (e4)

Sources are telling me that Langkow may indeed be returning to the Calgary FLames after all, and in fact a deal may be close to, if not already, in place. This is a good move that gives one hope for players who don't feel that just because they get a ton of points they should take more money elsewhere if the situation is not as strong. It is very hard to argue that Calgary is the perfect spot for Langkow.

The Cap Runneth Over

Yes indeed. The salary cap is going up, up, up again it appears. Revenues are up again, and it looks like the Cap could jump to "just under 56" according to my source. This means that the lower limit will be just under 40 Million and yes that means that after just three post-lockout seasons the lower limit will now be above what the salary Cap was three years ago.

All this should be good news right? Revenues are up right? Well, yes....BUT...the problem is the those revenues are not being shared properly so teams at the lower end aren't seeing a 25% increase in revenues since the lockout. There is a VERY real potential that this salary raise could indeed bankrupt a few teams I am told. So this is extremely serious, and I expect that we will see some sort of emergency rev share relief fund fast tracked. It is really the only option.

Much more to come today...

I continue to update a bunch of players from the chart..

THE E-SYSTEM EXPLAINED IN A NUTSHELL (NOW WITH +I)

A higher E-Rating does not ALWAYS translate into a stronger chance that something will happen. The E-System isn't designed to rank rumours, but to inform you of the proximity and strength of a source in relation to the player.

(e1)- 1 reliable source not connected to the team or player
(e2)- 2 or more e1's
(e3)- 1 reliable source with a connection the team or player
(e4)- 2 or more e3's or 1 e3s and more than 2 e1's
(e5)- NOT A RUMOUR, BUT I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY SOMEONE CONNECTED A DEAL IS DONE.
+I- This can be attached to ANY (e) rating and signifies that I am told the deal is IMMINENTex: Mats Sundin: TOR (e4+I)

There have been scenarios where a rumour has been an e4 and the deal has not gotten done, and there have been scenarios where a rumour has been an e1 and it has gotten done. Essentially, a good source not connected directly to the deal could still have great info since this whole system references rumours pertaining to ongoing discussions only. A rumour is a rumour only and should not be considered as a fact. REMEMBER OUR #1 RULE: It's all good. It's all fun. It's all Hockey.
