Carey Price, and his goal posts were the difference in the game.

Buffalo will miss the postseason for the first time in the post Lockout era.

No Drury and Briere; Campbell left in February; a Janaury of self-inflicted proportions; a terrible home record; injuries to key personnel; an exhausted goaltender and shaky back-up. Add it all up.

I'll give you my analysis of the season at another time. Right now, its your turn.

What the Hell happened to this Sabres team this season?

*****

1ST PERIOD:

* Spacho in. Nathan Paetsch out.

Spacek's point bomb will ignite the stagnant Buffalo Powerplay. The top-down PP will have to be the approach as the halfwall attack has not been effective in recent weeks.

***

Ryan O'Byrne chops Bernier's stick in half and he draws first penalty of the game.

Slow entries by Buffalo; good zone time; no goals, however, good pressure.

Successful kill.

**

* The Montreal D have been compromised without Mike Komisarek in the lineup. Komi is a tough guy that attacking forwards hate to play against. Buffalo have to make hay while he's out of the lineup.

***

End of the first period, washington and Tampa tied 1-1.

***
Steve Begin slams Reggie Sekera's face into the glass with a deliberate attempt to injure, and ashe lay crumpled on the ice, the home crowd applauds the injury. Nice touch. Disgusting behaviour. Terrible non-call.

***

Ryan Miller makes his best save of the month on the bang bang play by Dandenault and Latendresse.

Weber was caught on the pinch.

Great save. Great backcheck.

Sabres take their first penalty of the game.

1-0 Montreal: Chris Higgins re-directs the Streit point bomb.

PPG

***
2-0 Montreal: Begin forechecks hard, turns over puck, feeds nice bach-pass to Smolinski.

Miller never saw it.

***

How many times have we seen this before? Buffalo come out and control an opponent, then, they take a penalty and the game changes with a PPG.

****

Sabres PP:

Buffalo's entries are painfully inept. Montrea PKres are playing the tight gap, and they are denying ice. Kotalik and Afinogenov are handling the puck like its a live hand grenade.

Smolinski nearly creates a 2 on 1 shorthanded attempt.

Successful Montreal Kill.

***

End of the first period.

Montreal are flying and their two quickies have given them a ton of confidence. Buffalo stopped skating in the middle of the period-- they blew two PP opps.

***

2ND PERIOD:

3-0 Montreal: Smolinski gets his own rebound and he buries a harmless wrister at Miller , who was screened by Lydman and the collapsing Montreal forwards.

***

Alex Kovalev needs his ass kicked for his gutless hit from behind on Nolan. The Dman was playing the puck in his right corner, with his back to Kovalev-- why should that matter?

Again the zebras miss the obvious penalty call.

****

Montreal shut Buffalo down in the second period, allowing only 4 shots to Buffalo.

***

3RD PERIOD:

Time to let it all hang out.

Spacek scores the PPG with Miller on the bench on a 6 on 3 advantage.

***

********

The Sabres will have their hands full in Montreal tonight.

Can someone please tell Al Kotalik to keep his stick to himself? Iamgine where the sabresd would be right now had Kotalik not tripped Hamrlik , with Buffalo leading 3-1 with less than three minutes to play, at home last Friday night. Tomas Plakanec and the Montreal PP will be looking to put Buffalo down.

****

Carey Price -v- Ryan Miller.

**

Spacek will play for Buffalo, sore chest and all.
