something big may be up?

From Andy's Strickland's Blog Just Posted...

For the first time this season Toronto has approached forward Darcy Tucker about waiving his no-trade clause.

Sources say Cliff Fletcher has deals on the table to move Tucker to Anaheim, Ottawa, or Detroit. (Ek's Note: Sources tell me that it is not Anaheim)

Tucker, who accepted less money to stay in Toronto before signing a long-term extension, politely said no.

Colorado believes they are the frontrunner to land Los Angeles D-man Rob Blake.

Anaheim and Detroit are also pursing the All-Star D-man, Dallas is out.

Many believe Blake isn’t going anywhere and he will re-sign in the summer to stay in LA.

There are players in the Toronto dressing room who still feel Mats Sundin isn’t going anywhere.

Time will tell.

I have been told there is a long-term deal on the table for Anaheim Ducks GM Brian Burke to leave after this season and become the Maple Leafs GM.

Burke, who is as good as they come, already has his Cup with the Ducks and is looking to become the king of hockey as the Maple Leafs General Manager. I’m hearing a six year deal could be in the works.

Don’t believe the Red Wings when they say Nicklas Lidstrom is set to return in three weeks. He could barely skate off the ice after he was hit by Colorado Forward Ian Laperriere. I’m told Lidstrom could miss up to two months with knee and head injuries. We haven’t heard much about the head injury.

Wings GM, who I respect a ton, knows NHL clubs will hold him hostage at the deadline if they know Lidstrom is expected to miss two months.

++++++++++++

According to a source the Pathers are not willing to take any players with big money contracts for Olli Jokinen and instead are asking for all young players...based on what Bob Gainey said today about acquiring an impact forward for young players this is VERY interesting.

Peter Forsberg meanwhile is still VERY much still in play in Philadelphia, Minnesota, Ottawa, and the Rangers, but I am told DOES not want to sign a contract that would commit beyond this season. That makes sense based on what I know of Peter.

A source has told me that Chris Neil has suffered a knee injury and will miss extended time. Bad news for Ottawa who continues to struggle.

5 SOURCES ON SUNDIN

Source #1

"Mats refused to come out and meet the media tonight..Usually he is very prompt and always shows up to be interviewed. Tonight's lacklustre performance may be what pushes him over the edge. Reporters waited more than 30 minutes. Finally, Leaf PR Director Pat Park emerged to tell about 15 reporters that Sundin had "the flu" and had left. He did not make himself available for mid-day skate either."

Source #2

"I am hearing that the Leafs Board is upset that they waited until today to officially approach him. They did not put a deadline on him and rather said, 'take a few days.' However by waiting this long they have really put Mats into a situation where he really doesn;t know how to react or what to do."

Source #3

"Mats wants to help out and feels a huge amount of respect for the organization. He LOVES the city of Toronto and absolutely feels indebted to the fans and the city. He honestly feels amazed that he could spend an entire career in a hockey crazy city like Toronto and never have a single fan or media person say or treat him in any way other than kind and fair."

Source #4

"Honestly not sure what will happen, but as of now it is all in flux. As we talk right now, Mats is not in play as far as this trade deadline goes. That is how the GMS who are waiting should strart to respond to the current events tonight. Will he come into play? We don't know and won't know until Saturday. The seven or so teams that are waiting on Mats need to realize to not out their eggs into this basket, and hope they can still make the needed moves to improve their team while holding back the right pieces should Mats suddenly come into play."

Source #5

"I was told that Mats knows what the deal is and that it is a team that he really needs to think about before accepting."

More to come.
