“We feel good about our organizational depth”. That deadline thought is aging like a glass of milk in a boiler room. The Sabres came to town and absolutely rolled over Detroit to push them back outside of the wild card scenario. 6 straight games of looking for answers and there’s pretty much nothing left to say.

There is a small crowd that seems to feel that you could swap out the current roster with Grand Rapids players and turn it around. There’s another group that wants to see the kids play. Regardless of the success that collegiate, AHL, oversees and junior league prospects have this room needs NHL players and those look fragile and lost.

After a relapse of some head injury issues, I couldn’t watch the game. Going through the replay, the interviews and just the way players in the Red Sweater look it’s absolutely boggling. This is beyond Larkin being out. This is a tail spin. Even the press in the room is asking the same question multiple times in the post game.

Just over 2 weeks ago there were commercials about post season tickets and next year’s season packages. Right now, it’s not an enviable place for the sales staff. However, the players on camera believe in each other. That’s great, but it feels like a hollow sentiment.

Maybe in August this will make more sense. A free agent or prospect that is ready to grab a role. Right now, that room almost feels like the room last year after the deadline. In reality, Kostin moving on was better for everyone (the player as well). This group just looks like someone said or did something to suck the wind out of their sails.

A pack of coyotes are headed this way that made fairly light work of this team that is absolutely fragile. There’s just not much left to say. Find a win or get another half hour to an hour of “we just aren’t clicking” or whatever the case may be.

The hardest part of writing about a team in blog form is that you are allowed to care about the team. You would think that makes some things easier. Right now, it’s painful to watch. Let me know your own perspective and what you expect to see when Detroit hits the ice for their next game.
