Oilers Acquire Henrique, Carrick From Ducks

The Edmonton Oilers have reportedly traded a first round pick in 2024 and a conditional 5th round pick in 2025 for Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick. Reportedly, a third team is involved here as well for some cap retention.

Henrique is 34 years old with 42 points (18-24-42) in 60 games with the Ducks. He can play both the centre and the wing and could be used in a second or third line role. I like the player, particularly on the third line as he should add some much needed offense to the Oilers bottom six.

Carrick is a fourth line centre or winger. He has decent faceoff numbers and hits a bunch. He doesn't bring much else great defensively or offensively. As a depth move it's fine and perhaps helps in that Derek Ryan seems to be more comfortable as a winger now than a centre.

The cost for these two players is a 1st round pick this season... that I don't love IF it is the main big move the Edmonton Oilers make. If they somehow can find a way to add a Buchnevich or a Guentzel without their first round pick this season than fantastic... but I don't know how that'd work.

Moves are starting to come in today with Tarasenko off to the Panthers and Sean Walker to the Avalanche. I'll wait to cast full judgement on Ken Holland until the deadline has come and past. For now they've added at least one more useful player.

I'll update as more things happen.
