JOE SAKIC TO UNDERGO HERNIA SURGERY

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that Joe Sakic will undergo hernia surgery. He will be sidelined approximately eight to 12 weeks.

“Joe’s rehabilitation has not progressed as anticipated and upon further evaluation the decision has been made to perform surgery in order for him to fully recover,” said Avalanche Team Physician Andy Parker.

“After consulting with the doctors we believe this procedure will enable me to return to the lineup,” added the Avalanche captain.

Sakic’s injury has forced him to miss the last 12 games, dating back to December 1. Prior to the injury, Sakic had played in 232 consecutive games dating back to January 6, 2004.
