RUMOURS!!!!

trade freeze, spade freeze....

I touched on this yesterday during the talkcast and said I had to do more research.

Well I have, and here's the latest:

There are people in the Rangers organization who are starting to question some of the "choices being made based around #68." One person I talked to today reiterated what I was told by a source "not as close to the scene." He said, "There comes a point when you start to ask yourself, 'How far do we go to make a single player comfortable.'"

The team that is most often linked to Jagr is Edmonton, although I have also heard the Penguins would make a serious pitch...

Which brings us to the next questions..."Are the Pens looking for a Sniper to play with Crosby?" I have heard both sides of this one. On the one hand, it is pretty obvious that the folks in Pittsburgh realize with all the great talent they have that they can be patient. There is also an argument that Crosby needs someone with a little more experience on the wing.

Cheechoo is the natural candidate, because he has struggled. My sources in San Jose say that Cheechoo needs a new start and that his production has a bit to do with him, but a whole lot more to do with Thornton playing less and less of a playmaker role.

The other rumour that popped up out of nowhere yesterday was Pat Marleau for Tomas Kaberle. I do believe the Sharks would have to sweeten that pot, but the move may make some sense depending on how much sweeter they can go. I don't expect this move to go down far ahead of the deadline, and we all need to remember that Montreal is still VERY hot on the trail.

Ovechkin to the Kings is another rumour that I mentioned on the air yesterday. It is an E1, but it is the first legit AO rumour that I have heard. There are also rumours of a possible extension for AO as early as mid January, so we will see. The deal that I heard would start with Cammalerri and Bernier (the goalie) plus...

SPECIAL NOTE.

With the Holiday Season upon us I wanted to inform you all of something that my family did and I truly believe in. It is a project called "ONE LAPTOP PER CHILD."

It is a great concept, and if you order before December 31 you can get one laptop for your kid (or yourself...it is an awesome Linux indestructable machine) and give one laptop to a child in a developing country for only $399. There is no question that the best way to bring the world together is through communication. The Internet, for all of its craziness, may be the best chance we have for peace on earth. It is much harder to hate someone when you know them.

From the OLPC website...

In 2002, MIT Professor Nicholas Negroponte experienced first-hand how connected laptops transformed the lives of children and their families in a remote Cambodian village. A seed was planted: If every child in the world had access to a computer, what potential could be unlocked? What problems could be solved? These questions eventually led to the foundation of One Laptop per Child, and the creation of the XO laptop.

OLPC’s mission is to provide a means for learning, self-expression, and exploration to the nearly two billion children of the developing world with little or no access to education. While children are by nature eager for knowledge, many countries have insufficient resources to devote to education—sometimes less than $20 per year per child (compared to an average of $7,500 in the United States). By giving children their very own connected XO laptop, we are giving them a window to the outside world, access to vast amounts of information, a way to connect with each other, and a springboard into their future. And we’re also helping these countries develop an essential resource—educated, empowered children.
