Answers to "What the Ek?"

Max-Mtl: What the Ek will the Habs do with Ryder and Halak?

Ek: Halak is going to be moved. Much has been made about whether or not he has threatened to play in Russia, or ask to be traded. The official word is he hasn't. However, he has been offered a contract from a Russian team and is a backup in the AHL. He has value. Many people in the NHL see him as a starter one day. Ryder's slow start is disturbing and coupled with the fact that he continues to sign one-year deals, does lead to speculation that he may be "keeping his options open." I don't see the Habs moving him at the deadline. I believe they may move him in early january, but as long as they are this much of a contender they will likely stand pat and roll the dice.

Higgins21: What The Ek? Are the habs gonna end up in the top4 in east for the first time in.... i cant remember how many years?

Ek: Yes they are. In fact I am working on a story about just how far this team could go in the next three years. This is a scary team with a widening window.

MyTeamMyTown: what the ek?? are the oilers trying to move roloson and is gerber being eyed as the replacement?

Ek: There was a trade that ALMOST happened in the pre-season, according to sources in both cities, that could have moved Roloson and landed Camalleri in Edmonton. Gerber isn't going anywhere. If anything I would say that Emery is more likely to be moved.

sensandpens:what are the oilers gonna do with their nwo lack of depth on d? who are the sens going aafter for a top 6 forward? have the penquins worked out there goalie mess, like have they decided to keep their guys or are they stilll looking for a better backup yet?

Ek:Three great big looming questions. #1 wait, #2 wait, #3 wait. Sounds like a cop-out, I know, but it is very much the case in all three cases.

arby: What the Ek? What are the Canucks going to do with their troubles with bad play and injuries? Any chance that Nonis' hand will be forced?
Ek: Yes. I do disagree with some of my fellow reporters on Nonis. Nonis is getting calls now and trying to be poached. That won't happen. However, he could very easily turn around and initiate a move. I do believe it will still be for more offense however.

Ryan Atwood: What The Ek?????? Where is this Leaf trade you were talking about and what teams seem to be in the fold?
Ek: Talks, as of 11:35am this morning, are still ongoing. That doesn't mean that the button will be pushed today, this week, or this month. These talks are of the nature that a move is being explored for the moment the button needs to be pushed. When you are working on deals this size with NTCs and NMCs it takes time and you ned to be VERY cautious. When is that button going to be pushed? That is the question.

dante: What the Ek is:
Up with Cheechoo?
Up with Dan Ellis?
Up with homicidal skate blades?
Is Havlat the guy M. Knight based his Mr Glass character from Unbreakable on?
Or was that Salo?
Best place to find a pickup roller hockey game in SJ or Phila area?

Ek:
Cheechoo is a streak player. He is sharing the same sort of slow starting engine that his teamates are

Dan Ellis is a guy that I am absolutely thrilled for. He was a guy that had a shot to be the #2 guy in Dallas during the lockout season and looked to be on his last legs this year. He was forgotten about during the UFA frenzy and now is creating an opportunity.

Skate blades like concussions are a result of the incredible speed that the game is moving at.

I used to play in the roller rink at the Skate Zone in Voorhees, but I haven't played roller in ages...not too much fun for goalies, IMO.

Habscap69: WHAT THE EK? Are the Habs still targeting a "SUPERSTAR" player even though we are playing so well?
Ek: not that I can tell...looks like they may have some of their own. However, this great play could work out EXTREMELY well for them attracting a superstar say in two years or so who say where's the #4, who say could put them over the top.

ikn: What the Ek? Are there any trade or extension (lots of young guys need to be locked up sooner or later) talks involving the Kings?
Ek: yes. Lombardi is a patient guy however. They aren't shopping for a goalie right now, that's for certain.

CaptPantalones: What the Ek are the Sabres going to do about their porous Defense?
Ek: That really is the $100,000 question. I still don't understand why they avoided markov. So much depends on them getting a gritty d-man. They need to get a guy like Warrener back...

Acekicker 123: What the EK? From what you hear about the Leafs trade rumors, what mentality do the Leafs seem to hold?

Lateral move involving similar players for a shakeup?
or
Upgrade with veterans for the short term?
or
Trading away veterans for long term prospects?
or
Non-impact deal involving contract dumping?

Ek: It is a move to add some gritt and change chemistry.

OutlawTorn81: What the Ek? will happen with the Habs goaltending situation in the coming months? With Huet an UFA next season, Price playing solidly in his first few games, and Halak (and Danis) in Hamilton, there's a lot of people vying for only two positions.
Ek: I know I am a broken record, but the Habs need to bite the bullet and hand this team to Price. I watch alot of Habs games, and I do like Huet, but to me he doesn't have that "it" factor. He can be very quick and very good, but he can only take you so far. I think that this will play itself out naturally over time...Price is the key. Halak, could still survive as a backup, Huet will sign somewhere else this summer. Especially with Kipper re-signing. The Market nows belongs to Huet. Look to possibly Chicago who may be able to move Bulin prior to next season...which is his last on this deal.

back to the phones to keep digging.

Let's hear your "So-Far, All-Stars."

Also the Trailer for the New Flyersbuzz TV is up. The second episode will air later today on Philadelphia Flyers .com

Here's the trailer with segments featuring Me driving Marty Biron and Julie around, Julies playing Elefun with Biron, Clement and Mike Richards discussing a goal, and "Flyerside Chat with Keith Jones." Enjoy!
