Islanders Sign Dunham

The New York Islanders have signed Mike Dunham to back-up Rick Dipietro. He signed a one-year contact. The nine-year veteran, who joined the Islanders as a trainng camp invitee earlier in the month, has played in all of the teams first three pre-season games. 1-2 record 4.09 goals against, allowing 6 goals and 833 save percentage.

" There weren't alot of jobs out their this summer", Dunham explains . I talk to a few teams about tryouts. With Garth retiring to become general manager of the New York Islanders, a spot opened up". I played well last season, but I didn't play a lot. There were some injuries, Mike missed 28 games with groin injury. When I did get in there, I played well. You just got to keep movin on!. Its a new season. I think we have hard working team", Dunham said.

"We're going to work hard and have some fun this season". Dunham continued. His NHL stops include New Jersey,Nashville,the Rangers and Atlanta. Last season with the Thrashers, who missed the playoff by two points, Dunham was 8-5-0 with 2.77 goals against. 893 save percentage. In his career, Mike Dunham won the Bill Jennings Trophy, the lowest goals-against with Martin Broduer, Won Olympic Silver Medal for USA in 2002.

Islanders general manager Garth Snow and Dunham were teammates at University of Maine.
