Mlive’s Ansar Khan is reporting that Nate Danielson is headed to Grand Rapids and will make his debut. According to the article (please take a minute to click over if you can) Nate will be the 6th player and 4th first round pick to make their Griffins Debut in the playoffs in their first year after being drafted. This is exciting, and also could be concerning.

The game is Monday, so Nate will have a day with the team before they faceoff against Milwaukee as his assignment is set for Sunday. If you watched the Rockford series and game 1 of Milwaukee, the hits are picking up. Chirping, barking, scrums, running the goalie and hard physical play are all on the table. It’s the playoffs and there seems to be no shortage of inconsistency on what is or isn’t a penalty in the AHL and NHL.

Nate will have a target on his back. Someone wants to “welcome him” to the AHL. Occasionally you hear the verbiage come over the rink mics (if it isn’t screened for family friendly audio). Danielson isn’t small by any means at 6’2”, but the first physical battles at the AHL level can be an eye opener. There may not be a McSorely around, but it might be a good idea to have a physical line mate.

Apart from that, I’m very excited to see if he can jump into play. Edvinsson and Kasper are getting some notice. Berggren, definitely not the biggest guy, as apparently Marchand-like in his agitating skills and takes the abuse but plays on.

Mentally, it’s hard to imagine going from one set of playoffs in your jr league to another set in the AHL. The team suite is already pretty full for these games, I imagine they’ll have the full complement in attendance for this debut. So, what do you think? Will Nate make an impact or will an impact be made on Nate? Or both? Does this add to any excitement about the series? Sound off and let me know.
