Did the Avs win? Yip. Did they really score five goals on Chris Mason? Yip. Did Brandon Yip come up big when they needed? Yippee ki yay.

That's the story tonight as the Colorado Avalanche beat the St. Louis Blues 5-2. Craig Anderson made 33 saves, Brandon Yip scored two goals and Chris Stewart got a Gordie Howe Hat Trick en route to victory. TJ Galiard and Paul Stastny also scored for the Avs while Erik Johnson and Eric Brewer scored for the Blues.

The Blues came out strong, taking a 2-1 lead after Johnson wristed a shot through Anderson's five-hole. Then, the Avalanche show started.

Brandon Yip powered the Avs to victory, taping in a powerplay goal to send the game into the first intermission tied 2-2. Yip would also put this game away, firing a shot on goaltender Mason who got most of the shot but it still fluttered in.

Yip had five shots on the night and was the real catalyst to the Avs' energy. The play that really made tonight was when he deked around three Blues, got to the net and fired the puck just over the net. Before that play, the Avs were on their heels a little bit. However, after this play, the Avs seemed to play more heartened. Usually plays like that come to Duchene but tonight it was all about Brandon Yip and Chris Stewart.

Stewart was in his Scarecrow form tonight as well, powering to the net, making life a nightmare for the Blues defensemen and goalies (Chris Mason was pulled after the second Brandon Yip goal.) Between Stewart and Yip, there were 10 shots, five a piece, and three takeaways. Both guys were just huge for the Avs tonight, as was Craig Anderson.

Anderson didn't start off well, giving up two early goals but he was big the rest of the game, standing tall whenever his teammates needed him. However, maybe it's time to give Peter Budaj a start before the Olympics so he isn't cold going into the Games.

While the Avs didn't start well, they played really well for the final 50 minutes of the game. After tonight's game, I'm inclined to start calling Brandon Yip "McLane" with a chanting of Yipee Ki Yay (you know how it goes) everytime he scores. Hopefully next time he'll get the hatty.

Three Stars

1. Brandon Yip- 2 more goals (now is only 8 behind the team lead)
2. Chris Stewart- Gordie Howe Hat Trick for the win!
3. Craig Anderson- 32 stops for the Avs' warrior

Facepalm of the Game

Chris Mason could have stopped about two of the goals that were scored tonight and therefore gets the hardest Facepalm ever given out. Really an all-around good game to watch tonight.

Aaey of the Game

Brandon Yip's chance dekeing around the three Blues players gets this award. It was a play worthy of Patrick Kane. Hopefully, when he grows at the NHL level, he'll start pocketing those ones.
