Vegas has 2 goalies, 7 d-men, and 11 forwards under contract for next season. With about $6M of cap space.

They qualify Dorofeyev for less than $1M.

So that leaves $5M to sign two forwards. Since Marchessault was one of the top 5 UFA centers available this summer I could see him leaving. Mantha won't come back. Maybe they bring back Stephenson and Carrier at $5M total? Or move on and bring in two other UFAs.

So they have no real cap issue next season. Hence, I don't see why Theodore gets moved. The following summer Theodore, McNabb, Hill, Thompson all come off the books. They could commit to Theodore and Thompson and let McNabb and Hill move on. Again, not a huge problem.

Good analysis though. Will see if more chatter about a Theodore trade emerges. I noticed Logan Thompson's trade demands never amounted to anything. Maybe he's happier now.

Why add Hanifin if it’s just going to lead to trading Theodore. They are similar quality, age, cap hit long term, etc.

Of course they may HAVE to trade someone just to field a team. And sure their first round exit may lead them to decide the mix isn’t right. But I have to believe they had a plan in place at the time of acquiring Hanifin, and it didn’t include just swapping 1 for 1. Especially when Mcnabb and Martinez are at their end as well.

Marchessault is old. His next contract willl be negative value half way through. He’s a goner.

This isn’t a real rumor. It’s just someone’s idea and it’s a dumb one.

It's an E3. The definition is this rumour came from a source tied to either the team or the player. So it's not just some random idea!

I could see Philly being interested in Theodore. They are about $43m under the cap and need to spend the money somehow. Could add Guentzel to be their go to 1C when they move Couturier out.

Yes, Philly should shed all pretense of the rebuild they don’t want to do anyway. The return will be massive so they can give up youth like Foerster, Brink and Frost to help Vegas replace Marchessault and Stephenson. Then Philly could sign Marchessault for their 2C behind Guentzel.

If Vegas loses Marchessault then they will need a top center to replace him. Eichel is obviously 1C. But imagine if Vegas adds Reinhart as 2C. They'll need to create cap space so that's maybe where Theodore moves on. As time goes on Reinhart might even emerge as 1C and Eichel slides over to play wing, kinda like Seguin did. Dominoes.

Marchessault is a Center?

Thats news!

You think Stephenson and Carrier are signing for $5M combined?

Good luck with that.

What is the world are you talking about!? Reinhart and Marchessault are not centers, and neither will ever replace Eichel in any world anywhere.
