I lived in Etobicoke from 1980 - 1992, and in Toronto from 1992 - 2003, then Mississauga from 2003 - 2009.

The age that you are when you live in a large city has a direct proportionate affect on how much you'll like that place. Being in Toronto in my 20's and early 30s was exactly where I wanted to be and I wouldn't change it for a thing.

Conversely going into my middle 30s in Mississauga was tough. I never wanted any part of suburbia so there was a lot of adaptation and acceptance for me. Now I've been out in Waterdown for almost 15 years and I have to say that in my 50s it's another place that suits me - it's relatively quiet, traffic is dead after 7pm and it's still close enough to anything you really need.

But Toronto in the 1990s, for me, was so alive and awesome. Queen West had pretty much everything I ever needed at different times of the day.

This is so very true.
I lived in high park in my late 20's and it was awesome. Lived in Mississauga in early 30's for a few years with my first born....it was ok.
Lived in milton now for the past 15 years, and its been enjoyable. 15 mins drive to a ski hill (more of a bump) and trail riding.
Hoping to move towards Collingwood once the kids are off to college/uni if they decide to go.

I dont live in Ottawa anymore (since 2009), but 30 mins outside.. but its fine. I prefer smaller city, or the country.

and the winters were brutal...but...im not so sure we will be having silly cold ones much more. this past winter was not cold or snowey

Yeah that is a plus at least. I have come to a point where I am realizing winters absolutely suck aside from hockey. Not even just me, people in general are just crabby all winter.

Its just my opinion based on what I like. I can see how certain people would like it there.
