Quick Hits: May 14, 2024

1) OHL Playoffs: The London Knight rallied from a 6-2 deficit in the third period to eventually claim a 7-6 win in double overtime against the Oshawa Generals on Monday in Game 3 of the Ontario Hockey League Finals. London leads the series, three games to zero, and can win the championship on Wednesday in Game 4.

On Monday, the comeback charge started early in the third period. Flyers defense prospect Oliver Bonk had points-- one power play goal, one power play assist, one even strength assist -- on three straight goals as London cut the deficit to a single goal. Bonk was originally credited with two power play goals but the scoring was changed on the latter to an assist after it was ruled that a Kasper Halttunen rebound was put into the net off a defender. Halttunen recorded a hat trick in the game.

Flyers wing prospect Denver Barkey collected a pair of power play assists, including a helper on Bonk's goal. Henry Brzustewicz scored the winning goal at the two-minute mark of the second overtime.

2) QMJHL Finals: It wasn't nearly as dramatic as its OHL counterpart, but Game 3 of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League Final had the same outcome: a Flyers prospect's team took a three games to zero lead in the championship round of the playoffs.

The Drummondville Voltigeurs dismantled the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, 6-2, in Game 3 on Monday. Flyers prospect Alexei Gendron had one assist. For the playoffs, he's up to 17 points (11g, 6a). Game 4 is in Drummondville on Tuesday.

3) IIHF World Championships: Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson was in net for Team Sweden on Monday -- his first appearance in the tournament -- as Tre Kronor breezed past Germany to run their preliminary round record to 3-0-0. Ersson saw just 16 shots for the game, stopping 15. Ersson carried a shutout for 47-plus minutes until Leonard Pfoderl tallied Germay's lone goal. Philipp Grubauer was in net for Germany.

Both Sweden and Team USA (Joel Farabee) are idle on Tuesday.
