It’s crazy how I’m always right about everything.

The team chasing individual success down the stretch is why they lost in the 1st round. They didn’t even try to prepare for the playoffs. Keefe just went, “meh, they just care about the playoffs now.” They played Willy while he was clearly concussed, Matthews ripped 200 shots a game trying to hit 70, Woll wasn’t given much time to get into form.

Tre better turn a new leaf (get it?) and cut the bullpoop. But as long as Shanahan is around, this team is rotten. They were so sure of themselves that they were ready for the playoffs, and they fell flat.

Hockey isn’t complicated. The bigger you are, the more willing you are to fight for pucks, the better defence you play, the better chance you have.

Coaching, goaltending, and leadership is vital. Start there ffs.

Anyhow. The Matthews/Marner window will start closing anytime now and the curse will remain for the foreseeable future. I’m 75% certain we’ll never see the Leafs win a cup in our lifetime.

So, if I'm reading this right, trade Marner?

I would stay away from the Predators and Soros. He's not a big goalie and at 29, he's probably at his peak and ready to go down soon in ability. The Leafs should be looking at the Islanders and Ilia Sorokin They should also be looking at one of the Islanders right handed defensemen. Noah Dobson would be first choice, but they aren't likely to trade him without another significant piece coming back. Ryan Pulock seems to be the safer bet. Sorokin fell out of favor with Patrick Roy and saw very little action in the playoffs. He has a new $8M per season contract kicking in and the Islanders might want to divest themselves of that contract. Enter Marner. If he goes to the offense starved Islanders, his cap hit around $11.5M, after next year, cancels out the Sorokin/Pulock contracts. There could be some other considerations in regards to prospects and draft picks going back and forth. It would be the better bet than the Nashville deal.

Preds seem like a good fit, but if we send Marner with an extension, I would think it would take more than Saros. Could be a win win win possibility. Interesting summer ahead.

For Tkachuk, Greig, and a 1st?

Sure.

Everything is relative my dude.

But do you think Willy’s balls are going to drop? Because if not (and they won’t) then that’s a (frank)in’ awful way to spend 11.5M. Nylander had a couple great games, but to think he’s just gonna score on a whim like that throughout the playoffs, and that he won’t go cold, you’re nuts. His defence was still bad. And two of his 3 goals were deflections. Not to take anything away from him, he still scored, but acting like he’s a playoff god is delusional. Leafs got Bert cause apparently he’s a playoff performer, turns out that not necessarily true.

John and his (frank)ing lessons too. Awful leader. Defence is porous too. They never even tried to build a proper hockey team. All the teams that are still in the playoffs have bottomed out and rebuilt properly since The 34/16 era. And we have NJ, BUF, DET all coming up. Things are far more bleak than ppl realize.

So sure, if the Leafs can use Marner to bring in someone like Tkachuk ++, then go for it. But there’s still the issue of Willy, Matthews (to a lesser extent) and a bunch of other cream puffs throughout the lineup.

It's not as bleak as you think. At least we have a few A level prospects coming up. We still have a first round draft pick. The Bruins, Panthers and Lightning have zero 1st rounders going forward and their prospect pool's are dwindling down. They've been good at finding players on the scrap heap and rehabilitated them for a few years to fill in the gap. Leafs had Knies as a rookie this year. Minten isn't far off and Cowan is looking like a future star. Throw in Woll and things aren't as bad as you think. Whatever the return for Marner is, will make this team more tougher to play against.

One last thing. The Leafs have no dead money on the cap this coming year. Teams will want to trade bad contracts that are on LTIR to free up space for acquisitions. Draft picks or prospects could be coming our way at the trade deadline.

just a friendly reminder, the leafs traded Sandin to Wash for a 1st and Gustavseon
which they used to draft Cowan

a little cherry on top is it was originally Bostons Pick.

hopefully he works out and haunts the Broons for years

Ugh, forget trading to Nashville for a soros.
Get a top 3 dman, a top 6 forward or high end prospects.
Hertl and theodore.
Kempe and clarke.
