What Will Happen With Brind’Amour?

The chatter out of Carolina has been consistent that Canes coach Rod Brind’Amour has a contract in the drawer and that he is going nowhere.

This same scenario played out in 2021, but after some rumors of possibly heading for greener pastures, the Jack Adams winner agreed to a three-year deal for a lower-than-expected salary. This time around, the Canes uncharacteristically went out at the deadline and traded for rental Jake Guentzel, but are on the verge of getting swept by New York.

Will Carolina getting swept make owner Tom Dundon contemplate changes behind the bench?

Brind’Amour’s name popped up in connection to the Rangers job before they hired Peter Laviolette last summer, and now there are currently five NHL head coaching openings, including Seattle under his former boss Ron Francis, and San Jose with 2024 top overall pick Macklin Celebrini.

The real challenge might be Toronto, with a group of talent that has not been able to get over the hump in eight years, and the potential of a big payday.

If the Canes lose on Saturday, it will be interesting to see how things unfold in Raleigh over the next week.
