Sad that all leaf fans, like yourself, spent all year looking forward to seeing the Senators and the Canadiens fail in the playoffs.

We all know how many times a team from Ottawa has it's Name(s) engraved onto the Stanley Cup.

Nice to see that you are still obsessed with everything that I post........it's kinda flattering..........but then now that the leafs Annual April Golf Tournament is done and finished............what else do whiny leaf fans like yourself have to do................keep it up!!

Not the Gionta vs Kessel crap again. Haven't we been through this and settled it?

On a team that is capable of competing now (which I'm not saying the Habs are or aren't) you would want a player like Gionta. On a team that is rebuilding and hopes to just make the playoffs in a year or two and compete in less than five (which I'm not saying the Leafs are or are not capable of doing) a guy like Kessel makes more sense.

It's apples and oranges. So shut up about it already.

Over a player like Kessel, yeah. He's got far more experience, especially playoff experience. Personally I'm glad we have Kessel over Gionta but that's because we're dead last in the East and have the youngest team in the league. In a few years when we make it back to the playoffs and hopefully can last more than four games Kessel should have a bit more experience and should be entering his prime whereas Gionta would probably be pretty well declined by then.

Gionta is more valuable to a playoff bound team in the short term. Kessel is more valuable to a team that hopes to be a playoff bound team in the long term.

So if the two were signed to identical contracts that were both about to expire and you were heading into the playoffs attempting to make a push before possibly losing a number of personnel and possibly facing a rebuild you would choose Kessel over Gionta?

I know that's a fictional situation and not really fair. I'm just saying that, all things created equal, one player is better for a playoff bound team while the other is better for a team in a rebuild.

Well I wouldn't trade Kessel for Gionta but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about value you're going to get from a player in different situations. A guy with a Cup ring and more than four times the number of games played in the playoffs is going to be more valuable to a team in the playoffs than a team in the bottom of the standings. Conversely a 22+ year old with the potential for 40+ goals a season but relatively little playoff experience is going to be far more valuable to a team in the Leafs position but significantly less valuable to a team heading into the post season.

If you disagree with that I guess we're at an impasse but it seems like pretty basic stuff to me. Experience is one of the most important factors in the playoffs, one guy has got it and the other doesn't...therefore the one with playoff experience is more valuable to a team in the playoffs. And it's not like we're talking about one guy who is a 4th liner and the other a top liner, they were actually extremely close as far as PPG in the regular season, so it's not like Gionta is a useless scrub.

Gionta was almost completely a non factor when he won the cup though. In the following years when he had a bigger role NJ choked. Obviously that wasn't his fault, but he wasn't spectacular either. I take Kessel over Gionta in any scenario.

I'll never understand why some of you put so much stock into a cup ring for two guys who sat on the bench most of the playoffs the years they won (Gomez moreso than Gionta, mind you).

Because 2 Stanley Cups and multiple years of playing in the playoffs give you much more playoff experience then watching them on TV...

So which category do they fall in? They're kind of in between, as they watched most of it from the bench.

Yeah I guess watching on TV is like being on the bench.......

Battling in the War that is the playoffs even it if is for 10-12 minutes a game is like fighting the wife/g/f for the remote.

Being called upon and counted on to be a role player in the Stanley Cup is equal to passing the salsa while watching it with friends.

Sweating it out between periods being part of a playoff game plan is like discussing the dinner plans with your significant other after the three stars are selected.

Ok, save me the time it'd take to read the last 8 pages - have we come to an agreement that the answer to "Which team is in a better situation: Leafs or Sens" is... Montreal?

And when the Sens take one of the first two games in Pittsburgh either Wednesday or Friday, what then? "Sens get one extra playoff win." Will that be the statement?

I don't mind Leafs fans (who I'm sure are being taunted to no end by Sens and Habs fans here and elsewhere) trying to trash-talk us, but that really seems like the bottom of the smack-barrel...

Not sure why Gomez got involved in the discussion other than it is procks obsession..

As far as the who is better off...

Is it the team that went from 24th place overall to 29th place and not having a first round pick for the next 2 years or after missing the playoffs for the 5th straight year OR

Is it the team that went from 19th place overall to 12th place and has picks in the 1st round of both the next two drafts while playing in the playoffs...

Tough decision...... like picking Conchata Ferrell or Denise Richards...

I'm pretty surprised Toronto or Florida didn't win it... would have made a better story.
