Who's to say that EDM wanted to put a NTC/NMC on Penner
- poisondhearts37

Who gives a crap if they wanted to, they couldn't. I'm glad I could educate you on the do's and don't's of an offer sheet.

You have said repeatedly that an offer sheet is the same thing as any other contract and you are wrong in the respect that: A.) there can be no conditions or contingencies
and
B.) The player cannot be traded for a year after signing the offer sheet.

So, you are wrong there and now wrong in saying that a NTC/NMC can be part of an offer sheet.

How would Nashville matching take Weber out of next years UFA market?Wouldn't he only be required to sign through this upcoming season, like Parise did?
- Ranger71

The Preds have to match the money and years that Weber signed for on the offer sheet. No matter what, Weber's off the UFA market next year. Just depends if he'll be a Predator or a Flyer.

The offer sheet is a 14 year deal. Nashville wants to keep him, they have to match the deal, salary AND term. Basically Weber will now be either a Predator or a Flyer for life.

I stand corrected, although when the deal is finalized a NTC/NMC can be added in. I was reading the wrong section.

Gotcha, not many people know about offer sheets. It takes your team to be involved with one to become acclimated to them. I don't pretend to be an expert but when you read the ins and outs of them for a week in your local media when your team is involved with one, you pick these things up.

I was re-reading the CBA thru bleary eyes that should have been asleep 3 hours ago.

I recall the Flyers signing Kesler to a sheet in 2006, but I was literally getting ready for bed when I saw Dreger's tweet. That ruined me.

Nashville can trade him after one year and the new team would pick up deal, salary and term.

Yeah, that sucks. Vanek is no Shea Weber. What was Kevin Lowe thinking when he was offering up 4 high draft picks for a one dimensional sniper?

They can, but if Nashville's paying $26mm that first year, I'm sure they're going to want to keep him around for awhile

Very true... Lowe may be a fool... But he made Regier into a bigger fool for matching considering he should know his players!

Yep. I also think he would get some sort of NTC/NMC when the actual deal was finalized, regardless of it being in Nashville or Philly-Holmgren gives out NTCs like candy

After already losing Drury and Briere, I'm not sure if it was Darcy Regier's decison to match the offer. I bet it was the Sabres' President at the time Larry Quinn who made the final call. He may have been afraid of the fallout with the fans if they lost all three to free agency.

Ur likely right... Cause when you consider where we were and what vanek was at that time it seemed easy for Regier To just let him got and take the picks to the bank...
