I just posted above....18,000 works only of they can keep charging very high prices and the NHL should discourage any buildings that small.
But if stuck they would let it slide like they did in Winnipeg.
San Jose sold out every game and I think their capacity is about 18-19K...
They lost $15 mill last season. - Al
Just looked at a ticket from a game my daughter took me to last year in Toronto. Seats were comparable to my Lexus Level seats in Chicago. Price of the Toronto ticket - $175. My seats in Chicago - $75 and it includes parking in Lot C across the street.
2 schools of thought on seating capacity - less seats = more demand for tickets and firmer pricing. Too many seats - no urgency to buy a ticket early, can always get a ticket mentality. |

Again, suites?
UC, I THINK, has about 100 suites/skyboxes/whatever that they sell for - well, I don't know, but it brings in tons of revenue, split somehow between the Hawks and Bulls. It's a lot of revenue for a small pied-a-terre.
Does MTS is Winnepeg have suites? Would Saskatoon? - StLBravesFan
Agreed, suites produce sizeable revenue. But you are missing the obvious - suites are full when it is a happening place to go and the team is winning. Crappy team and the lights are out in alot of those suites.
In Canadian markets, the tickets are all sold well before the season. Even teams like Toronto and Edmonton who have been horrible for years don't have to work at selling tickets and putting bums in the seats. Seat holders never give then up.
And I think I read that Winnipeg was in the top 10 or 12 revenue producing teams in the league already despite their small arena. |

The Maple leafs will never concede their territorial right for any amount of money and can afford any lawsuit anybody throws at them.
But there is a new NHL size arena being constructed in Markham - just east of Toronto. Should be able to Google the details.
And another thing - putting another team near Toronto would be at the risk of hurting the Buffalo Sabres which depend on Canadian fans for a good part of their game to game attendance.
Winnipeg arena is new and was expanded to get up to 15000. They take in more $ per game than the Thrashers did in 10 games. - RickJ
I agree about the Sabres but they are too far away to have a say...They have been keeping prices low some say because they benefit from getting help from big mkt teams...Even though they have had a good size wait list.
So really that area is out....So Quebec and ??
But as you say it is a moot point for now. |

No two schools of thought here...
In the States with 41 home games and preseason you need to have the capacity to hit it big when going well....Just imagine what their bottom line would be like if the Hawks had 18k instead of almost 22k??
Plus the boxes are the cash cow.....And no one has more than the UC.
The 300 level wouldn't be close to full for most games at Toronto prices.
Many places can't charge enough with only 14-15K seats. |

Move the Coyotes to Stockholm, the Islanders to Munich, Blue Jackets to Helsinki and the Panthers to London. Create a 4 team Euro Division that plays most of their North American games in the Eastern time zone.
Timing to cross the Atlantic is no different than flying east from California, especially with private jets. |

Wang would have a better chance of getting a new arena in Helsinki! |

Don't disagree, but..... if a team is selling 4 tickets for $99 and giving away a hot dog and coke with each ticket .... well you haven't got any kind of fan base or a crappy team.
But then again, no price is cheap enough to get me to buy a ticket for an NBA game. |

And Mint Robme and his buds are part of the 47%, or damn near close. He paid less taxes than I did last year, we know that for sure. And he created lots of jobs in his time, for 9 year old Chinese girls.
That last administration had it figured out, Mint will try it again, with little to no taxes for the Royalists and zero regulation, how did that work out? Record surplus inherited, record deficit passed on. Dow at 12,500 when he came in 5,500 when he left. SEVEN HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND jobs lost in the crime family's last month occupying the White House.
And you call the poster a dope, Goof? - Mr Ricochet
Wow Rahm, impressive, If you paid more in taxes...more than 6.5 million and you spew stupidity...? something does not add up.
There is an old addage...You never get into an argument with a fool 'cause after a while people won't be able to tell the difference.
Go ahead and enjoy the great State of Illinois. The peoples republic. Getting econ/strategic advice from someone buying into and promoting ideas that have led to the current condition of Illinois is akin to hiring a guy to coach your pro football team because he won his fantasy football league two years in a row.
