Eric Smith: Blue Jackets May Trade 1st Round Pick
The "Fail For Nail" chant has been going on in central Ohio since about Halloween. It was the one thing that fans could cheer for on what became quickly a disheartening season. Word has now came out according to Marc Antoine Godin of the La Presse in Montreal that “NHL execs from three different teams told me CBJ are expected to trade their 1st round pick (likely 1st overall) at upcoming draft.” This according to Godin's twitter feed.

For the Blue Jackets' fans' sake, they better not trade that pick. Scott Howson's an idiot, so you know he's either gonna demand way to much for the pick and end up not trading it (as if people aren't gonna offer a lot for the pick) or, he'll make a "bold" move (because that worked out so well last year, right?) and trade it for a bag of pucks. Either way, Columbus is getting screwed with this guy behind the wheel every day. Just fire him and hire Craig Patrick. At least he's actually put together some winning teams, something that Howson has no idea how to do. |

Caps have two first round picks plus goalies maybe a package. Caps need centers. grienko might be a fit. |

There are a couple ways to look at this. IF the Blue Jackets go into the GM's meeting and draft still looking to move Rick Nash, trading the #1 could be an option to completely restock.
Figure that Nash bringing back a 1 plus players. The #1 should bring a 1 (lower in the draft of course) and players as well. That is two assets for up to 6 in return.
That said, I would not let Scott Howson pick an entre' let alone the first overall for my team moving forward....I think rather than worrying about moving the number 1 they should worry about who might be making that pick |
