To piggy back off of your comment:

The sports business is driven largely by perception, so when a star player being marketed "allegedly" does the things that Kane has, it is an issue. Some people might not find fault in anything he did and that is fine, but there are enough people that will find issue with it and then it does become an issue.

He probably is not doing something that any young red blooded American male hasnt done in their college years (outside of the alleged choking). The problem now is that technology exists all over the place that can document these transgressions. Camera phones were not an issue even 10 years ago. They exist now and the potential issues from that you are seeing via Deadspin. Public figures need to adapt to these changes in order to steer clear of perceived issues, or, face the consequences for right or wrong. That is the reality of it.

Kane is 23 not a kid out of high school. Enough with the "he does what every American male does" You don't see anyone else acting like a fool and you can guarantee they are all having fun, too.

I agree, the Flyers did very well and if I were a Flyers fan I'd be happy. However, which fan base is happier wasn't my point.

Coin-flip trades can go either way, at any time. Right now, LA is in the finals with the Flyers ex maligned players, so Lombardi must be looked at as the winner right now.

That is the reason why I wouldn't blame any GM for making what he deemed as a "coin-flip" trade.

Hell, I can't bring myself to do it even in fantasy leagues, can't imagine what it's like for these guys when it's for real.

It's like a goalie mindset.... Just gotta forget about the last goal and move on.... Then again I'm a flyers fan, what do I know about goaltending?

Do we have to get a proven player in return for Kane? Or is just high draft picks enough? Such as the 1st overall this and next?

It really isn't about his drinking, though the Hawks will say they are worried about him. It really comes down to his decision making and how he continually puts himself in the crosshairs. Truth be told, he probably doesn't drink any more than half of the others on the team, but he's 3 times as likely to get caught doing it...which leads to more shenanigans (and trouble).

I am not defending his actions but at the same time you arent going to hear about people like you and me on the grand scope of Deadspin if we do the same thing, we arent famous and dont have a profile.

If I'm not mistaken I think Keith played with Methot a bit at the World Championships.

Maybe:

Keith - Methot
Oduya - Seabs
Leddy - Monty

I do love the idea of another big D-man like Methot.

It is most likely about not knowing limits....
