i don't get how the leafs/and their fans can call Toronto the "center of the hockey universe" when they haven't won anything since 67. they weren't a force in the 70's 80s or 90s really, they had their moments but nothing to earn that kind of title. Even today on hockey day in canada there wasn't one story about the leafs or the veteran/retired players doing anything special for the sport. The fans, ex players and cbc spoke alot about the habs, Boston and their alumni, and nothing about legendary leafs. Albeit its not all about the habs but id put the leafs 5 out of 6 of the original 6 teams as being an influence to the sport, mtl, det, bos, nyc,to,chi. Man did phanuef get burned today... he looked so bad, embarrassing. Lastly ACC has to be one of the quietest and boring arenas in the NHL. Barely an ovation for Sundin and the momentum didn't carry on into the game at all... you could hear a pin drop in that building and its like that almost every game. One day hopefully the acc will be a hard arena to play at like the other original 6 arenas. I feel bad for your team to have to play in that kind of atmosphere. the 2000 Nordique's fans at the Ottawa game today were louder than your whole building combined!

I hope we hear more about how the Leafs shouldn't make any moves for fear of disrupting the chemistry.

Where was Army? Hurt again?

Or did he just sit so that Daryl Boyce could be our mushy feel-good story from PEI?

This game was the definition of embarrassment. On a night in which they lift to the rafters the number of arguably the greatest Leaf to ever play, in front of a national audience on Hockey Day in Canada, they get obliterated and shutout by the Canadiens. What more of an honour could they have possibly bestowed upon Mats Sundin than to prove how badly they need a player like him? Disgrace doesn't even begin to describe what occurred tonight.

"
- Leeman4Gilmour[Leafs] homers like Healy"

Probably the first (and last) time that phrase has ever been written.

All the credible guys have left HNIC - Morrisson, LeBrun and now we are left with Healey and PJStock - this Saturday timeslot hopefully comes up for grabs - Hughson should have called this game tonight

... point taken but let me ask you this...

aren't you just a *little* bit afraid that the Leafs will now go and make a bad deal to get some size up front in some futile effort to squeak into the playoffs.

The best thing about the winning streak is that it made it less likely we would see more typical Leafs bullsh*t of trading the future for a non-existent present chance at success.

Now I am terrified of what kind of trades are coming up.

And then, to top it off, we let Kessel get harassed.

What a statement to send to the league: we won't defend our best player.

If Kessel goes down, this team is screwed beyond belief. Maybe we should take things a little more seriously when Subban tries to take out his knee.

Ya if the man who put this team together, Mr Burke is embarassed anything less than 1000% than he should re-sign.

Shame on the Habs and the Leafs this year. The organizations are just an embarassment.

Gotta love when a Habs fan uses losing to the Habs as evidence of how embarrassing we are.

Agreed...tonights result left an extremely bitter taste in my mouth...that's for sure. Love the effort Captain Phaneuf put in on the game breaking fourth goal.

That's how he was playing in CGY - plays like that made him expendable there - I just hope that Leafs nation doesnt get on his case - he may mentally check out for good

In fairness, he won the race for the puck and threw it back up the ice off the boards.

The forwards were putting in such a disgusting effort skating back that there was nobody supporting Phaneuf to pick up the loose puck.

The play of our forwards really bothered me most tonight. They couldn't make a pass to save their lives. And the skating was pathetic.

Well no one who is sane is gonna bet money on the Habs meeting the Leafs in the Eastern Conference Final for the right to play your Canucks in the finals. Not being sarcastic about the Canucks, I'm picking them to return to the finals this year.

Good God, here come the armchair psycho-analysts...

And how many Calgary Flames games, pray tell, did you watch to earn your expert opinion?

The Red Wings simply don't look like they can be beaten at home this year.

God help whatever team plays them if they get home ice advantage.

The invention of cable helped - got rid of my bunny ears on my tv

its not psycho analysis - if you watched or read any articles on Phaneuf at the time of the trade - those were reasons cited for him being traded - he seemed to be disinterested more often than not - if that would happen here in Toronto - will not be a pleasant situation
