Mark McNeil won player of the week Honors last week.

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Mark McNeill of the Prince Albert Raiders is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 29 after scoring five goals and three assists for eight points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-7.

McNeill began his week last Wednesday night by scoring four goals for the first time in his career and added an assist to match a season-high of five points in one game despite a 6-5 loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers where he was named second star. He also scored a goal on Friday night as part of a 7-6 win over the Kootenay Ice, and recorded two assists on Saturday in a 6-3 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

McNeill, an 18-year-old from Edmonton, Alberta, is playing in his third full WHL season with the Raiders. The first round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft has 55 points in 47 games this season with 23 goals and 32 assists.

If Carcillo hadn't gotten hurt, I don't think Shaw would have made it to Chicago this year.
- NewToHockey

Agreed. And with Shaw being here now, it has made Carcillo expendable. I my opinion, I seriously doubt Carcillo gets another contract next year in Chicago.

I completely agree with the team defense concept and understand the Hawks are lacking in this department, but at some point you have to call a spade a spade the defense has been making their OWN mistakes. They cant keep a crease clean, they are having trouble moving the puck, their spacing has been poor, the lack of physical play, no one really stepping up in the offensive zone, giveaways and giving up some crucial breakaways. The list goes on and on.

Its just hard for me to look at a team who is 25th in the league in goals against and say they have the BEST Defensive corp. And if they do then Scotty has done his job and there is/are some major problems with the system(s) being played and/or the coaching getting the players to execute the system.

Meh, they had those same issues 2 years ago. You can call the 3rd pairing a wash but the only difference is swapping Campbell for Leddy, who sometimes moves the puck well sometimes not so much.

The free bee's from the points, the odd man rushes and forwards picking up loose pucks is not happening at the rate or consistency it did the year they won.

McNeil dominated last year as well on a bad team. I think he is 6'1 or 2 and pushing 210 so he is a man among boys. Need to see him play against more physically developed competition before they figure out what to do with him.

Goalie Johan Mattson, Chicago's 7th round pick in last year's draft, stopping 45 of 46 shots, leading Sudbury to a 3-1 over Brampton today.

And Brandon Saad with a goal and two assists in Saginaw's 4-1 win at Kitchener.

Mattson has a chance. Big kid, getting some good press for the amount of rubber he sees and and stops.

Big mistake to equate these guys. They both can play here and while similar, are quite different as well. And I would bet if Carcillo is healthy, he will get a chance here again.

Murray might have asked for Kruger and Leddy in return for Visnofsky and Parros. Doesn't mean the Hawks would remotely entertain dealign either. I would call Leddy, his current issues aside, virtually untouchable. And they would want a lot for Kruger—again based on how they project him.

Other GMs have also asked for Kruger. As much as a few here want to say he blows. professional hockey people disagree. 5 years from now, he is going to be a very, maybe extremely, good NHL player..

Dear God please no! Not another bad goal at the worst time possible guy. Loser. Cap or no cap issues, the Hawks are going to pay for years to come for letting Niemi get away.

I am totally inventing this proposal, but would you do:

Kane and Crawford for
Ryan Miller and Drew Stafford?

Saw him play back in Oct. He was a beast in the corners and in front of the net.

Some would, I wouldn't; and neither would anyone paid to make such decisions, I think.

JJ, have we seen the last of the carbomb in the indianhead? To be honest I think we miss him more than people think. He could play with our top six and did his job. The dumb penalties are going to happen, thats how he plays. I would not mind carcillo being back next year.

We dont want anyone from Buffalo unless he wears 26. And 26 would not be very helpful to our defensive issues as of late.
