im sure that their expectations for those guys were NO WHERE near where they are today. - noename09
that is fair enough. but to say that because they waited until the seventh round, that is just maximizing value at the draft. |

I thought it was because we didn't resign Niewendyk, and he wanted to go play with his buddy? - Feeling Glucky?
Yes, I know that's what you thought.
You need to come to Wedgie for the real story.
Don't make me dig out the Steve Simmons story where he hints at it.
It's a fact, dude. |

It's easy to say that you want this and that but I like the idea you have. I don't think Kessel needs to be the #1 guy or anything and I think Lupul would benefit the most from being called on in the #1 spot.
I've thought about Kessel being a weapon on the #2 line and I like it. Even:
Lupul - Statsny - Parise
Kadri - Connolly - Kessel
Kulemin - Bozak - Frattin
...would be a nice mesh of players and far more realistic. - Holy_GM
The way I had it I was looking at Colborne replacing Connolly, and Frattin replacing Army....that would also give us the cap space to resign Getz and any others due for a raise. |

So the seven guys the Wings selected before Datsyuk played a total of 307 NHL games (305 for Fischer, 2 for Ryan Barnes, 0 for everyone else), and you think waiting until the 7th round to select the guy they thought was the biggest diamond in the rough was part of a master plan??? - Atomic Wedgie
their scouting in North America was poop. But they knew about this guy nobody else did and there is no reason to pick him in the first round if you know he will be available in the seventh. |

Anybody gonna watch the draft tonight? For all the flack this game gets, I'll watch it. I'll even watch it tonight. I'm hoping Kessel is the first pick..maybe Lupul can talk Chara into it. If not, I hope they have fun with him and pick him last again. - weirdoh
Here's a bigger question: what the heck am I going to do on Saturday night? |

no need for parise and his 7 million dollar contract....that money needs to go to a power forward,we already have a parise. - Barx
Well, in that scenario he proposed, we get Getzlaf.
Parise is a step above Kessel, in that a) he's managed to put up ppg numbers in a defensive system without much help, and b) he's also their top PKing forward.
I know the PK is awesome right now. But I think we can agree that a bit more help on the PK is always welcome. Especially when the same guy will also play a major role on the PP.
If we could get that line-up... we'd be instant cup contenders. |

Do what you should do every Saturday night. Give yourself 2 excuses to buy your wife a new pair of sun glasses. |

not at all. Parise gets his goals from the dirty areas. Kessel is a perimeter shooter. |

I always laughed at that July 1st when Roberts left. They couldnt' get out fast enough. When did they sign there, 12:01? Seemed like it. What is the story you guys are talking about? |

Think we'll get Parise at only 6M?
And you don't necessarily want the top-liners fighting, no... but you want the other teams to know that they will defend themselves.
Also, isn't Parise a LW?
wouldn't it be more along the lines of
Parise-Getzlaf-Kessel
Lupul-Connolly-Kadri(seems he can line up all forward positions)
Kulemin-Bozak-Army
? - Feeling Glucky?
I think you could get him for $6.2 longer term (if there was more room due to a rising cap you could up him to the $6.8 range, or go with a 22 man roster)IMO. |

not the same player, but the same role.
i don't give a flying eff where they score from, they are both speedy point a game type players without a physical dimension.
we need some goddam mean on this team. |
