And that is because the number is greater than zero. As part of the All-Star festivities the NHL unveiled its top 100 players of all-time. The Blue Jackets having only been part of the league since 2000 don’t have the history or the success to think anyone from the franchise could be considered for something like this. As great as Rick Nash was for the Blue Jackets, he doesn’t really have a case to be a top 100 player, and as great as Zach Werenski has been this season, he doesn’t quite have the longevity to be in this conversation.
The lone ex-Blue Jacket to make the list was Sergei Fedorov who donned the Union Blue from 2005-06 to 2007-08. Fedorov obviously made the list due his time with the Red Wings, but he still had a productive three seasons at the end of his career for the Jackets.
When Federov was elected into the Hall of Fame I looked at his three greatest games in a Blue Jackets uniform. He had some strong games, playing on poor teams. He scored 1179 points in his career, of which 113 came with the Jackets.
He ranks 23rd all-time on the Jackets franchise scoring list. When he was traded in 2008 his 113 points ranked sixth. His point per game rate of 0.61 ranks 16th on the franchise list among those who played multiple seasons in Columbus.
Up next up on the All-Star weekend is the skills competition which goes tonight. Seth Jones and Cam Atkinson will both be participating. Jones will be shooting one-timers in the Relay, will be the fourth shooter in the Four Line Challenge and will take on Victor Hedman in the Hardest Shot. Atkinson will be in the fastest skater event, where he will take on Brad Marchand.
