The Carolina Hurricanes have signed defenseman Haydn Fleury to a two-year contract extension, which carries a $1.3 million AAV. The deal comes just before Fleury’s arbitration hearing, which was set for November 8.

Fleury is 24 years old and played his first full year in the NHL this past season, scoring four goals and 14 points in 45 games. He did average just 13:40 per game but played in all of the team’s playoff games. Fleury is likely to play on Carolina’s bottom pairing next season and he will still be a restricted free agent when the contract expires.

As a quick note, I really like this contract and it’s definitely cheaper than I expected it would be.

I’ll give more in-depth thoughts on the extension tomorrow.
