The Avalanche have signed forward Gavin Brindley to a new two year extension on Thursday, Nov. 11. Brindley made the Avalanche's opening night roster and has five points (3G, 2A) through 14 games. That includes his (and the Avalanche's) first overtime winner so far this season.
Brindley is an undersized winger at 5'9" and listed at 175 lbs, but he brings a high motor and level of compete to a very physical game that belies his size. That style of play earned him some minutes with Colorado's top line of Nathan Mackinnon and Arturi Lehkonen this past week. The new extension is structured so that he is playing on a two-way contract this year and a one-way contract next year. Traded for last year, Brindley arrived from the Cleveland Monsters in the AHL and has appeared in 15 NHL games in his career so far. The new deal includes $850K for next season and is guaranteed for another $900k in the 27-28 season, giving the Avs some flexibility with roster construction. Whether Brindley becomes an NHL regular is still yet to be determined, but two years out of his time at the University of Michigan, the former Wolverine has found a new home in Colorado.
