Flames Make Pitch to Sens for Spezza (Ottawa)

As I reported via twitter last night, the Calgary Flames have made a pitch for Ottawa Senators forward Jason Spezza.

According to Bruce Garioch and theScore, the Flames have offered Mikael Backlund, Jiri Hudler, defenseman Dennis Wideman (and) draft picks for the potential to acquire Spezza's services.

While the exact details of the offer are not certain, it is believed that the Flames have offered the above package or similar and are serious about acquiring additional star talent to help mold their own young stars, but also keep their team competitive during the rebuild.

With that established, it appears that Jason Spezza may have submitted up to ten teams which he would not accept to be moved to, and Calgary is believed to be included. Though this may be accurate, it does not mean that the Flames do not pursue the forward anyways as they do their best to improve their roster.

Personally I do not see anything coming about here as I strongly feel that Jason will end up being moved to a Western Conference contender. While the fact that Calgary likes to advertise that they are a hard working team who will be tough to play against will be true next season, it will likely be without a name like Spezza.

What are your thoughts on making deals like these at this stage in their rebuild?
