Wow, hard to believe that the season premiere of SlapShot Radio is already here. Pete and I have a great show set for you tonight as we welcome the newest member of the Predators broadcast team, former Predators goaltender (and fan favorite) Chris Mason as guest co-host. We will also talk to Mike Ross, host of Hockey This Morning on SiriusXM’s NHL Network Radio and will get Jeff Marek’s always entertaining take on the upcoming NHL season.
That’s tonight at 7pm on 102.5 the Game.
Speaking of SlapShot Radio… it is our pleasure to welcome back our day one sponsor… Hermitage Family and Cosmetic Dental… Dr. Jane Bacon and her great staff of hockey loving professionals. She has been with us since day one and without this great dental practice, SlapShot Radio would not be here. Please reach out for your dental needs at (615) 872-7762.
We are also welcoming a new member to the SlapShot Radio family of sponsors. He is the real estate professional for hockey fans, Mark Lonsway. I’ve known Mark for almost 25 years and he is our family’s realtor. He has over 30 years of experience in the Nashville market, he has seen the ups and downs and knows Nashville and the surrounding counties like no one else. We recently built a new house while selling our townhome… Mark handled both transactions for us and I am looking forward to sharing our experiences with you as the season progresses. If you are moving to Nashville, or within Nashville, call Mark Lonsway at ReMAx Fine Homes, reach him at (615) 207-7799 or visit his website at searchtn.com … Mark and his team will deliver the hat trick of real estate, service before, during and after the sale.
Now… a few observations from the last night’s loss to Columbus…
- The power play struggled, to say the least. Some of that was a solid outing from Sergei Bobrovsky, but some of it was using the goalie’s chest as a target.
- Also, without James Neal and Roman Josi in the lineup, the power play was missing a couple of key weapons.
- Nice to see a goal from Barret Jackman.
- Also, Austin Watson played an excellent game past night, scoring shorthanded and always seemed to be where he could do damage. Watson is making a solid statement to stay in Nashville come next week.
- Columbus’ top line was scary good last night… if they stay healthy, they will make noise come April.

- First reports out of Milwaukee’s training camp is that Kevin Fiala is not happy, but his reaction was to work harder in practice according to head coach Dean Evason… that’s a very good start.
- Former Pred Viktor Stalberg is impressing in New York, the Rangers are giving hism some prime time looks and the journeyman forward is responding so far.
- Dallas Stars head coach Lindy Ruff is not happy with his team and doesn’t care who knows it. He is quoted in today’s Dallas Morning-News as being “disappointed… with concerns abouyt the Stars’ compete level and the power play playing “pond hockey.…
- Give NBC Sports Net credit… the coverage of last night’s Kraft Hockeyville USA game was excellent, including Bob Costa’s great interview with the Hanson Brothers.
- Congrats to the Mazanec family on the birth of their baby girl!
